Yes, and how is she doing today ?
My broody BO was so superbroody you could wear her on your head like a hat and she would have just sat there in a trance !

well today i found her in the dog crate with her eggs. so today i moved her in the dog kennel while she was comfortable in the dog crate. set her up once again in the kennel my bf john made it secure... so she is in there glaring but on her eggs. happy i guess.

Thanks, Illia, for sending me over here. Newbie in Edmonds...so new I don't even HAVE my (um...I mean the kids') chicks yet.

We're letting the kids pick their chicks on Saturday - can't wait! So far we're thinking we'll get a Plymouth Rock and Araucana or Ameraucana, but not sure about #3 (we can only have 3 girls within city limits). Sussex? Buff Orpington? Any suggestions?

Thanks, this site has been fantastic!

I really love my RIRs and EEs they are both great layers and I love the brown eggs the RIRs lay and the olive green, light green and light blue eggs from the EEs. (Illia don't shoot me I do occacionally get some light blue eggs from mine. At least they look blue

) I have also gotton a buff orp and a delaware from the feed store this year and LOVE both of them so much they are so sweet! They don't lay yet but I love how they both let me and my 4 year old hold them.

-sigh- i know this is random... but i feel so sorry for my friend.

she is in the hospital right now.

apparently she has been there since 1.30 am... and is still in labor.... at only 7cm.... i do not know much about all that...
but i just think labor over 4 hours is cruel and unusual punishment.....

my friend says she is sleeping right now.... how often does labor go past 24 hour mark?

Quite frequently. 7cm is getting there

Is it her first?

Mine came fast, 7 hours for the first and 9 for the second, and the second need pitocin to get things moving along. Tell her an epidural is her friend, and that I feel for her! It's so worth it though, I forgot so fast, I was talking about the next one 10 minutes after the first came out. (ETA: But it was only to say that NEXT TIME, I'm taking the ____ing drugs!!!)

Remember an 8 hour day is a days work

And the payoff for this particular labor lasts forever.

well at 2am she went in for a c section. they had given her has much of the pain and dialation drug they could....
still havent heard how the c section went.
if remember katie is a year younger than me. she told me the doctors said she was lucky to get pregnant. (she is 20 i think). its her first.
so crossing fingers that both turn out alright.

edit: talked to a friend who was down with her and she said the boy was 7 pounds and 4 oz. they are both fine and sleeping

I had my first at 24 hrs of labor and breach so had a C-section, and so the next 2 had to be C-section also, it was easy, we picked the date, got comfortable, checked into the hotel, I mean hospital, and had a baby.
I was awake, with a screen set up so I could not see the goo, and DH was with me sitting at my shoulder, it was great !
The bad part is what it does to your body.

yeah i am just a little worried about how the kids immune system will be when he is older. i think she smoked while she was pregnant. but i guess it could be worse.

my friends' friend is 4-5 months pregnant and she still smokes pot.....

which i think they are stupid. but one is dumber than the other....

one is my friend and the other is just someone i met through a friend...

Funny , went down to feed the critters this morning and went in the coop to feed my girls, my roo scares them all away but my sweet buff orpinton, he will eat right along side her no problem and if another chickie gets too close to HER he will scare them away as well.......never seen this before.

Sparklerose!

You will have so much fun with your new girls! Handle then a lot while they are young. I did, and then they went through this sort of teenage thing and didn't want to be touched, then when they started laying they would let me pick them up again and the squating started so I could pet them. THey eat out of my hand and follow me everywhere! I wanted to let you know that Araucanas and Ameraucanas from the feedstore or not true breeds, they are called Easter Eggers. You have to get them through an actual breeder to have a true Ameraucana breed. Someone replied to your post and corrected you and I just wanted to explain why they did it. I know you will love them all! They have such different personalities! I wouldn't trade mine for the world! Welcome to the world of chickens!
