yeah, but it was much funnier with the story.
But just all alone in my coop photo album then all of BYC would wonder why the heck I have a porta potty posted in my album.
It would be funny though !!!!!!!!

Hi all. I have 2 beautiful drakes and a sweet cayuga duck needing new homes. Free to good home and the duck house can go with them. I would like to keep them all together so they don't stress in a new flock. I can't get any more ducks and I'm afraid my drakes will mate my Cayuga girl to death this spring if they aren't introduced to more females. I am not in a hurry to get rid of them (actually I'd like to keep them as long as possible until their "urges" kick in as the weather warms) but would like to know they are welcomed into a new home where they will be loved as much as we loved them. I can post pics later when my cell phone finally charges (lol) but if anyone is interested please pm me with questions. Thank you.

How much space do Cayugas need?

checking back in, the power is on ... here ... again ... for good, I hope :fl

DH had a talk with DS, and the decision came down, that DS agreed to care for our chickens while we are gone :yiipchick

didn't seem possible, after all, that we could build a coop and run for them over at Julia's, given the weather

(and all the other factors) :he

besides, DS has gotten used to GOOD eggs and is loath to go back to store-bought

so in the next ten days before we leave, I am hoping to get the coop and run all fresh and clean and secured from the nastiest of the weather3.

DH bought a hundred pounds of chicken feed, and I'll make sure they have enough oyster shell and sunflower seed too

still haven't heard anything regarding the chicks we left on Maui; I may get together with the other BYCers there, maybe get a few chickens, and build up a nicer coop by the big house for them, leaving the thrown-together one down by the cottage available for whatever chickens survived the year

I'll miss the chance of your company, but anywhere we could put a coop is full of snowbreaks right now, too.

I'm trying to get sufficient energy to get stuff off fences, but instead I had to spend almost an hour cleaning up where the dogs knocked an over-filled kitchen trash can and spread stuff all over the house, and ended up eating lunch an hour late as a result. I'm worn down to a nub right now.

The driveway is finally driveable, so at least I'm over chopping rock ice and spreading pea gravel and slogging groceries up from the tool shed.

Kudos to Cindy (cmsdvm) for the great article in the new issue of Backyard Poultry Mag........

Very imformative & easy for the beginner to understand !

I too have some live ILT (Fowl Laryngo-Trac )in my fridge & am ascared to use it.
It is a modified Live Virus.
Although I think Pipsnpeeps has used it on all her birds & has had no issue, but have to ask her to verify that.
I bought the vaccine from her.

I have various hatches & ages in the brooder from day olds to several months old, and when the brooder is full, and oldest birds need to move on, I vaccinate them all.
I keep them penned during the following 14 days.......as I have noticed the immunal system can be pre-occupied with the weakened (MG) virus and birds can come into contact with other "bugs" during the time it takes til maximum immunity.
Then out into the world they go !
I was told years ago that you can indeed vaccinate ANY chicken of ANY age.
IF the bird was previously exposed to MG, it will start to show exaggerated symptoms within a short period of time, in that case, get rid of it !
Just goes to prove, it is NEVER to late to vaccinate unless the bird already has it ! (MG)

Once again, great article !

They started last week, in the blizzard, crazy birds !!
But obviously the hens are getting ready, else they would not be squatting........

Where can we get copies?

I was going to post a link but the newest issue is not loaded on their web site yet.and I have a subscription so it is in the Feb/March issue.
Keep looking for it on their web site if you do not have a sub.

Edited to add: The whole mag is really good this issue !
Lots of good articles, especially for newbies, on feathering, hatching, vaccines, etc.
Usually this mag does not hold my interest for long, but it really good this time.
Nice article on breeds: Ardenner Fowl

Also from the SPPA page:Dr. Charles Everett has announced the SPPA has a new web site !
I have to go check that out, I talk to Monte Daily & the grump has said nothing about a new web site.

Quote: Yes, an older computer with less ram etc can make a difference.

That being said I'm on a laptop with 4 megs of ram in it and BYC is the ONLY website this slow to load.

Since I go to all kinds of websites with even more content then BYC to load there is no way this is a computer related issue when they must have more work to do.

I hope they don't find this acceptable?

Also the fact non paying members have had the abilty to read more than ten posts at a time but now they don't they are missing out on post read stats considering only ten posts a page combined with slow loading some will instead just back up a few pages rather than going to start of where they left off.

I hope this isn't what they consider a selling point for new subscribers.

When you take away what use to be free that is bad business practices.

Advertisers want to see post stats.

If this remains the same I think they will find out they are only hurting themselves.

I agree Greg !
I have no issue with other web sites except Home Depot.
This computer is only5 years old, have 98% free disc space and lots of RAM but for some reason this BYC uses too much Virtual memory & I've no idea how to speed it up.
The web site (BYC) is just too busy do you suppose ?

And FlyRobinFly sent me a PM the day before & I never got it. where did it go ??????????
