So glad you're okay! I couldn't find your phone number anywhere, and was seriously considering a drive-by if you didn't pop up soon. :)

You are more than welcome to swing by. I will PM you my phone number.

A sad note. Last week I finally made the decision to let Puppy aka the Big Dog go to the rainbow bridge. I hope that somehow he might be with my Kaitlyn and that they will be playing together, until it's time for me to join them.  Puppy was losing weight, and was chewing holes in his hide. We just couldn't control the allergies anymore. He would have been 13 years old on February 10th. He out lived his life expectancy by many years. I miss him.

So sorry. I'm lucky in that both of my very old (just 15 and almost 14) dogs are in good health, but I admit that every time they don't come right back in the house when I call them, I wonder who's going to dig me a hole that size.

Wait, did someone say that in Tacoma you are allowed an unlimited number of chickens? I'm assuming no roosters, but still...

Every jurisdiction has their own rules, of course, and when we were looking for a new home here in Michigan four years ago I knew I wanted livestock so checked out the zoning regulations on every property we seriously considered. The place we ended up buying is 10 acres, zoned agricultural, but the zoning reads only 4 chickens (or combination of any type of fowl) per acre so I can only legally have up to 40 birds here. But they could all be roosters. Bwhaa haa haa, neighbors!

OK so far I have not wanted more than 40 chickens. And those limits would not hold up if this was considered a commercial farm under the MIchigan Right to Farm Act. (What is considered a "commercial farm" is quite disputed, some claim if you sell a few eggs you are a farm, but the court decisions have been mixed on that one, some imply there must be some profit making potential...)

Anyway, really, unlimited chickens in Tacoma? What are the details of the law?

I was the one making reference to Tacoma. I live right next to Tacoma in University Place, but there is no distance between our cities. Up until a few years ago (or maybe 20) we were part of Tacoma. Where I live we follow the code for Pierce County. I had been told there was no certain limit to the number of hens you were allowed in Tacoma, as long as there were no roosters. Tacoma seems mostly concerned about the distance between your poultry housing and the neighbors, (as our Tacoma friend Mia recently discovered).
Here is a link to the actual code and another link to Tacoma Chickens blog.

If you like dessert wines we have a wonderful chocolate port called "Commencement Bay" that a few BYCer's have enjoyed. We also have a terrific Super Tuscan called "Tavola Rosso" which is a lovely full bodied red that pairs well with pasta or a nice cut of red meat. One of my favorite lighter reds is "Tacoma Narrows" which is an Italian Primotivo. If you like dry whites we have an Australian Chardonnay called "Vino Bianco" or a Pinot Grigio called "Vino Grigio". One of my favorite whites is a Piesporter style called "Tacoma Harbor"

I'll be back in the shop next Tuesday and can email you a complete list of all of our wines. You can upload your pic in the form of a jpeg to [email protected], and just let us know what you want the label to say. We'll make up a preview and email it back to you for approval before printing and affixing it to the bottles. When the order is complete we'll email and let you know. Then we can either make arrangements for you to pick it up when you're in town or I'll bring it to Stevenson in April when I bring Cloverleaf's wine.

OK, so for $65 I will get any 6 bottles, and I'd like: 2-Columbia Valley Merlot
2-Columbia Valley Syrah
1-Tacoma Narrows
and
1-Tacoma Harbor
and I will upload a pic Monday then, is all this correct ?

We are doing a feed run today, and buy the rat zapper there.

ALL the 10 OE babies hatched out just fine & all is well, moving to the brooder tomorrow or so...it hs been cool at night here.

DH set up the wildview cam in one of the run pens last night, and at 3 AM here comes Mr Rat........looked like he was trying to get in the coop door but of course, could not, yet another reason to have your coops locked up at night.

Rats can steal eggs, and eat the feed & drink the water & poop all over in a coop, leaving fleas and whatever illnesses they carry.
Yuck !
They can surely run right in the coop during the day as well...and jump up on the feeders and pig out.
They can really upset the birds as well.
I would imagine the big Cocks and Turkeys would go after a rat or mouse...but the hen laying coops and bantam breeds would be very upset and may stall laying if rats were running around.
Rats gotta go !

Dang it! So pretty... (Looking at my coop to determine how to add roost space... Maybe it's time for a second coop altogether?) Chicken police - stay away from my door!

Just waite til you see the Buff/Blue splash, and of course all the new babies !
Can't waite to see the color/patterns they develope.
I watched 1 baby hatch last night & he/she had a nice big wet beard !!!
