happy new year, all!!!

fmp: i think we should petition hawaii for a "south washington county" somewhere... yup. and because we're residents, we should get a massive airline discount. yeah. in fact, we probably should be able to fly for free.

the snow this morning freaked me out!!! i loved it while it was here, but it's just too soggy now (picking up dog poop was NOT FUN when the snow thawed.....)!!! i want things to warm up and dry out just a little!!!!!!!!! s'okay, though - it's gone now.

silkiechicken: aren't you glad you don't have to go over the passes to get back to school???????????

(now back to catching up on the thread.)

OK, now that I've read all that I've missed.

Flyingmonkeypoop, I'm sorry you've been having such problems with predators. Yeah, the snow is driving my folks nuts as well. A snowload came off the roof the other day and took a railing out on their back deck. Snapped a 2x4 in half. (Perhaps I DON'T want to inherit their land one day.)

RE: quad. I don't know if he went down Bethel. I know he got our tree in front of "Towne Square" (

I hate that yuppy name. It's just the run-down mini-mall, for goodness sake!) We did go to the Wallmart earlier though.

We were without our mail for over a week, and even now it's a little iffy. And we're just about 4 blocks from the PO!

My DH's jobsite in Seattle closed down for a week and a half. (which, not only drove him crazy, but since I don't start my new prospective job for a month, and have been fighting with UI and haven't gotten any checks.... we canceled Christmas. His gift to me was going to be a trip to see my folks. Instead, he installed the bathtub in our bathroom that I've been waiting on for 5 years. Best gift ever, hands down, though I would've liked to see my folks too.)

I've had chickens ON by back stoop for 4 mornings straight. I've taken to going out alternate routes, as they will walk into the house if I open the back door.

My brother and his wife came to visit! Haven't seen them in a few years. Then, they got me addicted to World of Warcraft. (Just the free trial version. It will suck when it expires on Wednesday, as we can't afford that splurge.)

I had a deep thought yesterday. "People are like eggs. It doesn't matter what our shell looks like, we all have the same yolk." (I had been thinking about how weird it was that people prefer brown eggs to white eggs when from what I understand, there's no difference in the yolk. )

Here's my blog today:
"So for years I stopped making resolutions. I'd never keep them anyways, so why start them? This year that's my first resolution. Starting this year I will set 10 resolutions. The first two will always be the same.

Resolution 1: Make New Years resolutions.
Resolution 2: Keep them.

Then comes the more creative part. Here's where I really try to get in good.

Resolution 3: Lose 24 pounds this year. That's 2 pounds a month. I should be able to keep that, right?
Resolution 4: Save money.
Resolution 5: Take one school course. Doesn't matter what it is, just do it.
Resolution 6: Keep the kitchen, bathroom, and common room (living room / office) clean 80% of time. So what if it may not be my mess? It's not going to pick up itself.
Resolution 7: Grow a veggie garden and learn to can.
Resolution 8: Give up 25% of our stuff.
Resolution 9: Build the 2 bedrooms in the basement and possibly take in a roommate. Preferably one who either cleans or cooks. LOL)
Resolution 10: Try to listen to my elementary school teachers and "use time wisely". I lose track of time too often and then wonder what happened to the day."

Speaking of which... I gotta go start taking care of #6 which will help me on # 3 and #8.

Forget wishing me luck... PRAY for me. LOL

Guess what I hear......its the garbage man!!!! We must have tuffer mail ladies here in Olalla. We didn't miss mail too much over here. Yea the bills came!!!! (not)

I like some of your resulotions, I hope to meet you this year some time.

Selena,

Thanks for the great post. I'm with you, I decided not to set (and then break) resolutions this year. Instead, I'm going to try to focus on some goals for the good of our family. The include a number of things you mentioned in your blog -- heck that could have been my blog for all intents and purposes. I need to do all of those things and DH and I have talked about all of them in the last month.

Change of subject here:
Have you guys ever met up here in Washington? ...just curious... it'd be kind of cool. :-)

Thanks for the comments!

Herbs: will most definitely have to meet. Though, my S-i-l will be getting my feed now so I won't be going to Dell's much. She's found some place down in Purdy thats a few cents cheaper I guess. I asked if she'd just pick up extras occasionally and I'd pay her. (Muahaha! Make the in-laws work for YOU!
lol.png
JK, I love my in-laws.) It'll save me the gas and time. Besides, she's got a truck and I've been loading the bags into a 2-door Pontiac Sunfire. If my back isn't groaning, my car is.

Bad news. I'm missing a chicken. It was a big ol Cochin too. I didn't look around the property yet. I don't see any signs of a fight or anything and there's no feathers. I would think I'd be able to see a slate colored bird against the remaining snow. She was one of my best broody gals. Hopefully she's just distracted somewhere since every single one was out this morning. Even the big ol roo who doesn't ever hop the fence. I might have to do a thorough search since she still didn't come when I fed the others. Just my luck, one of the eagles probably got her. I doubt a cat would have. The neighbor cats haven't wanted anything to do with them except Max, who watches them for hours. Just likes to watch.

Resolution 7: Grow a veggie garden and learn to can.

Hi Selena! I can help with this resolution. I'm an avid canner and it gets sooo boring doing all the work all alone. When it gets to be canning season, maybe we could consolidate our work and get a work party together? You're not all that far from me.

My 2009 resolution is to move my veggie garden to my front yard. This will keep the girls out of it. They ate way too much of it last year.

Selena

If it is the cenex in purdy they have changed feed to payback I think it is called. From what I have been reading on rabbit lists that it has a lot of wasted fines in it. So if you notice that in the chicken feed then you may want to return it as a few cents less sometimes is not worth it.
