Thanks Chickie, these are great!

If you get any other shades/colors in the meantime I'd be happy to take those too.
In case anyone's wondering, I'm collecting different colored eggs to make a wreath. They will be blown out and just the shells used, so they don't need to be fertile or even edible. I have some from Justbugged and Chickie's saving for me, but if anyone else has pretty colors, I'd love to buy/trade some from you!

I'll save you some! Renton is not too far.

Hi All!
made it to Wyoming last night at 10 pm, after I spent the night in the Walmart parking lot in Post Falls ID!! One of the back tires started to split!! It's a good thing I'm not a sissy la la girl!! I had just fueled up and was headed to MT, and I heard what I thought was an unbalanced tire. But, it kept getting louder, so I dove off the next exit I came to and pulled up to the air hose thingy. I got out and looked at the back tires and I couldn't see anything flat, so I got out the flash light and found a 10 in gash with steel sticking out!! So I pulled back into better light and tried calling Terry, and yea, he had shut his phone off! So, I call my daughter and told her. As I was talking to her some cops pulled up. I went and told him what happened and asked where the closest Walmart was, and he told me 6 miles back. I told him I should probably change the tire to the donut, cause I wasn't sure if the tire was going to make it, now, do you think he offered to call anyone, or help?? H NO!!! So, I had to take all the crap out of the trunk and change it myself, I did ok, I've done it enough to know how, (good thing I asked Terry to show me how to use this peticular jack). Anyway, you won't believe how many men in trucks came into that gas station, and do you think one of them asked me if I needed help?? I have never been to a place that was so stuck up!! Anyway, got to spend most of the day with my son, very emotional and tomorrow will be even worse, but, he is doing very well and I am so proud of him! (he's in treatment for substance abuse) in case I didn't state earlier. We have a center circle thing tomorrow and we will be talking about what has happened to our family because of his abuse, ect. I am sure it will be very emotional and draining. Went to an AA meeting here with his group, pretty cool! Anyway, weather is incredibly warm for here this time of year! It was warmer in Billings and down here, then it is back there!! Anyway, wanted you all to know I'm here safe and sound and will be coming back Wednesday!!! Hope you are all staying warm and keeping the shiny side up!! I don't have time to go back and check the posts, congrats to all the new chickies just hatched, Cl nice pics of the Buckeye pullets! Take care!
I'll try to post right before I leave!

What an adventure - nothing like car troubles to point out that you are no longer a spring chicken. I have had similar experiences myself. When I was in my 20's, men would always stop and offer assistance. Now that I am 40-something, arthricic and amorphic, they just drive by.

I'm so proud of your son too, and I don't even know him! What a hard step to make. Good for him!

check the links on posts #62968 and 62970 ... the audio quality isn't the greatest (at least on my sound card and with my cheapie speakers), but it gives you a feeling of how he sings; also his wife is an awesome dancer of hula

Huh. "Reichel" is one of those Hudson Bay Co/Longmire Party vintage names which shows up here and in Hawai'i, like "Kalama" in the other direction (see also McCloud, Kautz).

I've been released from laundry today, and thus can do more broken-branch triage and/or chicken run building at my usual glacial pace.

And do a close-proximity check of the cows, who will start calving in less than two weeks. Good thing it didn't get dark until 5:17 or so last night, eh?

I suspect the "not stopping to help" may be due at least partly to two situations:

people have been warned not to stop for an apparent car breakdown because some low-lifes use that as a lure to carjack or rob ...

people have had insults thrown at them by women who say "I am capable, I can do it myself, buzz off buster!"

it may be excess paranoia, but it's also a sign of the times :hugs

I doubt that it had anything to do with your age or shape ...

So I just went out to check on the birds and let the layers out to free range, which I did. Then I was walking over to the Orps coop area, and came across a HUGE pile of feathers. I'm so sad! I let out my Lav Orps yesterday, and something took one of my two split black hens!
hit.gif
At least I still have a pair left, but why one of the splits?!?!!?! Ugh. DH closed the birds in last night when he went to feed the goats, so he didn't notice the one missing as he just closed their gate. So now I am rethinking even working on the project. I might sell the whole flock and that would leave me more room for English Orps or BLRW's. Bummer.

All the chicks that have hatched are doing well. However, the Marans that had pipped died. I hear others cheeping in there, but no pips yet. Worried about them!

Sorry to hear about your hen.

Last night I was over at the stables and I hear Quincy barking like crazy. I came back the house and lucky I had my bright light in my pocket. I got to where Quincy was to find that he had a street rat cornered and hanging from the fence by it's tail. I took qwik action and the score is now me and Quincy 1. Possum DEAD. that dirty street rat won't be gettin none of my chickens ! ! ! ! or eggs.

Thanks for the cyber hugs guys.

I just peeked in on my eggs again, cause they were cheeping like mad in there earlier today when I put some laundry in, and there is a brand new pip in another Marans egg!!! Maybe there is hope?!?

Bummer. I'd be discouraged, too.

I have something sniffing around my runs at night- I suspect the barn cat that has moved in on me is testing fences because I'm not seeing raccoon prints anywhere after the ten road-kills last year. No sign of digging on the outside, either.

KUOW is talking about Burmese Pythons in the Everglades, so I guess we're lucky to be out of their range.
