CR has quite a few WHITE INK PENS and PENCILS & CRAYONS that he uses to write on metal before he cuts stuff out.....silly boy !

NO those are lack of pigment paint markers. Silly girl !

Do you all recall I told you one of my two year old hens was bothered in the nest and laid an egg from the highest roost? I saw her in the nest late in the afternoon but no egg - and then that night she laid an egg in her sleep.

Well - it happened again. Same hen. But this time, the egg didn't get colored? It's our Jersey Giant - she lays plain brown eggs.

Here's the weird egg, next to a normal brown egg for comparison. This is the second one laid in the middle of the night from the same chicken, but not colored?






Weird. Any thoughts on why? Should I be on the lookout for anything with her?

CL its got color looks like a layer of calcium over it. Some Marans do that too...

No Ma'am, I honestly dont know where anything is here... I just joined this last friday. SO I am a true newby. I found this thread by googling and had to join. The more I can learn the better. And let me tell ya I have learned so much in just the past few days. Thanks to you all for barring with me and my questions. I know some can seem kinda dumb. I got my first batch of hens last April before then I had never seen a live chicken except at a fair. So I have much to learn.

There are no Dumb questions.
My girlfriend and I show dairy goats and a woman and her friend came up to her at a fair and asked if that was a Alpaca or a Lama ? So as long as you know you have chickens your all good..

erm I have to disagree

My Black Jersey Giant x Black Sexlink hen lays eggs darker then my Maran.
When she starts laying again I'll take photos

Really, you must not have a dark egg laying Marans.
Here is a picture of our eggs from our girls, this was last year I think. Also some blue eggs too, dont have those girls anymore..
