Oh good grief, you're asking for it now! LOL

FAVEROLLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know everyone is SO shocked by that, huh?
They are sweet, docile, goofy, beautiful, fun dual purpose birds that lay lots of big eggs!! And that's just the edited-for-tv version. Fluffy faces, feathered legs, and funky toes....what's not to love??

Been reading everyone's posts for days. Certainly is a lot of heartbreak and challenges going around. But then we'll have a beautiful ray of sunshine like the lucky streak for 4312 and we remember how important it is to count our blessings. Good things can and do happen. So happy you will be able to make the trip to Tacoma for your boys! Maybe we should try to get together for a coffee or lunch while you're here? I'll have to check my calendar - I know it's already filling up for spring!

All is well here - I LOVED our few days of sunshine and apparently so did the girls. One day I got 7 eggs out of 10 hens, the most ever since I've had them which is getting darn close to a year! I picked up my first 2 Ameraucana girls in Monroe last year which was right around March 17th, give or take a day.
The Ameraucana girls have not decided the time is right to start laying again yet - but I'm happy to report that both of Illia's girls, the Wheaten Ameraucana and the Araucana are both giving me eggs. The Wheaten does lay the prettiest blue/green eggs, slightly bluer than my other two Ameraucanas which give me very pretty green/blue eggs. I am enchanted by the rainbow of colors...

Which reminds me - I've got to send an email to Chickielady - there is one important color missing from my egg basket and I think I've got to add it!

I'm working full time this week at Vino Aquino while my cousin Rich is visiting with his brothers at their sister's home in Chandler AZ. They keep posting photos of themselves lying around the pool with drinks and cigars soaking up the sunshine. Jerks. J/K

Is there anything funnier than chickens playing keep away with sliced zucchini?
Nope - didn't think so!
And I have to wonder how one of my buff brahmas ended up in the enclosed poop catch underneath the roosts.
I found her there this morning - no poop on her - but she was just kind of quietly hanging out down there. Now I know who's laying the pale brown eggs.
Or at least, I did when I pulled her out. It was either Ingrid, Nugget or Hillary. Absolutely no way to tell those three apart. Their size and markings are identical. Just glad I'd added a new layer of shavings last night!

Yes.
Watching a horde of chickens play football with a snake (or a mouse ) is pretty entertaining...though not fun for the snake.

The best part is when one finally gets it to himself, whips it up in the air (like a cartoon !) and swallers in down whole like a fat piece of spaghtti.

anyone who breeds BLRW could you tell me/point me to a link, how to tell boys from girls? splash/blue/blacks?
The google search comes back with mixed answers

I am still trying to catch up on here, but saw this post! No way for sure to tell boys from the girls. Best clue for me so far has been leg size. The rose combs make it hard to tell until around 6-8 wks when the boys will pinken up much earlier than the girls.

The lightest birds will be splash. The darkest birds will be black. Anything in between is either a very light blue, blue, or dark blue. Hard to tell sometimes when they grow out even. I was sure I had all splash hens until I hatched only one of my girls eggs and she thru blue chicks! So she is very light blue. I have that roo in my dark BLRW pen too, not 100% sure if he's black. Sometimes in the right light, he looks dark blue. I have 5 chicks growing out hatched from him and 2 blue girls. I think I have 4 black and 1 blue, but won't know for sure for awhile.

There is a BLRW thread on here where lots of pics of chicks have been posted with people asking which chicks are which color. You could go thru that to get an idea. Here's a link to it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/466415/blue-laced-red-wyandotte-thread/530
