OK guys I am gonna open a can of worms.... What if your FAVORITE breed of chicken and why?

I have both ends of the spectrum....Orpingtons and Seramas. The Seramas are so friendly and people related. They are very affectionate. Feathered dogs. Love my orps...they are big and doofy. dual purpose. Great personalities. Love to watch them run. Fun birds.

Thanks guys... I am gonna have to get a notebook and take notes hehe. I am hoping to one day have a big flock... Lots of color both in the coop n the egg basket.

So I love my BCM for egg color. I love my English Orp for how friendly they. Than there are my silkies just have to love them they are so darn cute.

Mr Hallerlake prefers the Appenzeller Spitzhaubens because their black and white coloring looks so crisp and tidy, but i think i prefer the Brabanters. i love the funny little honking sounds they make, and their curiosity. They have to be in the middle of whatever I'm doing, even if it's just cleaning the coops.

I need a broody mama that won't attack the chicks i put under her.

Well, the big news is I am getting a new Muscovy drake!! And guess what?? he is from the Padgett lines!!

Ya know the guy whos big Black Muscovy took Crossroads!!! yeee haw!! A huge thank you to my friend from the Tricities Jen, who went to Sacramento and got him for me!!! Oh, BTW I'm gonna leave early in the am to head for Seattle, gonna see if I can meet up with a few peeps from BYC!! Ok did any of you WFF peeps get your ballots in??? just wondering?

Oh and my favorite chickens,, hmmm theres so many, I really like the Orps, very nice birds, like my Barred rock hens, but, I have always wanted some Buckeyes, and CL has some very nice ones!! Jeez your not selling yourself or anything huh CL?? LOL

Cool, I didn't know Silkies make good mamas! We have a broody one, sitting on two eggs, and are HOPING that she can hatch them!

Help! Will THIS Work with Silkie Bantam & Full Size?


So, hoping our sweet little miss broody/Silkie -sitting on two bantam eggs- has some success?!?!

Can anyone tell us if it is possible for a Silkie Bantam Hen to hatch a Bantam egg that may have been fertilized by a Leghorn rooster?

Has anyone ever had experience and/or success with this?

Our little Silkie Bantam Hen is broody and wants to stay on two eggs she is currently sitting on, so for now we have allowed her to do so! We do have one Full size white leghorn Rooster in with her and the other hens, and have successfully hatched more of the leghorns, with a previously broody leghorn-but never with a SILKIE!

Please Help!

Just wondering if anyone else has had eggs hatch like this? Our little black Silkie is sitting so diligently on the 2 eggs we let her keep! Though, I don't think we could take them away from her now! She has a GLARING STARE that looks as if she would attack if provoked!

orps are pretty broody, I had one Buff Orp that hatched out three Musovy duck eggs for me, on top of a few Barred rock cross!
Poor kid sat on the nest for like three months, my husband kept putting eggs under her!! I finally told him to stop cause she wasn't getting enough to eat!!

OMG!
so because I am in constant pain, mind you it varies in pain level, it has been very hard to sleep. At one point the doc put me on Gabapenten (sp) which is for nerve pain. You have to take it at night cause it makes you really drowsy, ( it's also used for seizure control)
I don't take it very often cause when I do it takes all the next day to wake up. But, when I haven't slept well for a few days I use it. I know my husband is sick and tired of me tossing and turning and getting up constantly! So, I couldn't sleep last night I got up at 12 took some, still tossing and turning and not sleeping, Terry had to get up at 230am I got up again and took some at 3!! It worked but dang!! It's gonna take me till 3 to get moving!!!

Thing is, it does work, at least over night and for an hour after waking up, then as I get moving it wears off and I'm limping again!! Thank God I'm going to see the doc Friday!! So, if my post here have been dark, and angry that's part of it, also, going to WY was very emotional and I'm having problems picking my self up again! And I really miss my kids!! So much stuff came out about the past, and I am just so angry and sad!! And although I see a counselor, she isn't helping me, when I spoke to my son's counselor she recommended a sexual trauma counselor, cause, even tho I didn't know what was going on at the time, it still effects me, and with all that just happened, I am really struggling to get things done, cause my mind is always going back to WHY!!?? HOW can I stop him?? I just don't want this POS to hurt someone else's kids!! And I CAN'T let it go!!! Anyway, so yea, depression? yup, but, I have been on meds before I hate them! So, I'm just trying to find a way to get though this with as little meds as possible, the hip thing isn't helping either!
Anyway, so I'm sorry if I've gone off and brought the forum down!!

I wish I could be of some help - feel free to vent, I do it all the time, and I'd be really embarassed if I was the only one! We're all here for you.
