Also a note to RonB:::

When Pettec63 (Julie) was here last Friday, she had to see the various aged Buckeye chicks...and was oh so in Love with your babies ! She reached in the brooder box & up jumps a chick & went to snuggle right up on her next (maybe it is all that red hair !)

maybe thinking Julie was Mommie !

LOL Never fear, I did not let Julie take your babies !

I hope it has a cover because before long they will be hopping out. I use a rabbit cage and my neighbor uses a dog crate. She put a blanket over the whole thing to keep the heat in. I will usually side the cage with card board and that keeps it warmer too.Quote:

Will they be ok or should I wait another week or two? Maybe just add another heat lamp? I just wish they had more room to move around. Even tho all they do is eat and lay around anyway. Here is the set up I have for them in my shed.

She sat on the nest for half the day and all night but now she is not sitting. so I guess I will have to wait.

I got the silkies so I didn't have to do any of the worrying. But I still handled the chick when she hatched. She sat on my hand while I was taking pictures of her.

Its cute. My daugher now has to listen to any egg she picks up just to see if it cheeps at her.

Seriously? I've never raised CornishX but from what I've read they are big fat lazy pigs. Can't picture them flying out. Did you check the temp under the heatlamp? It will be warmer under there and also give them a cooler place to go outside of it. I keep a spare lamp in case of bulbs going out but don't keep 2 on at the same time. Mostly because it will end up being too hot with 2 going at once. Do you have just a regular 100 watt bulb or a 250 watt heat lamp?

I hope it has a cover because before long they will be hopping out. I use a rabbit cage and my neighbor uses a dog crate. She put a blanket over the whole thing to keep the heat in. I will usually side the cage with card board and that keeps it warmer too.Quote:

I'm getting eggs from Castle Delight Seramas in April (didn't Pierre come from Laura?) - I can't wait! I heard she only has a week in May left for egg orders, but yes, plenty of other folks here have them as well. jbear, cloverleaf farms, red rooster farms (she has such pretty whites!) 4312, and many more. Folks kept posting pics of their cute tiny little chickens and I was trying SO hard to fight the temptation. I finally succumbed and ordered eggs. We'll see what happens. I haven't broken the news to DH yet that they'll be wintering inside and spending time with us in the family room...

Thanks guys, I am still basically starting out. I have 1 roo and 3 hens, 1 cockerell and 2 pullets, and eggs in the bator. They are a wonderful fun, friendly, charming bird. I hope you find your young adults. You will so enjoy them. I am not yet in a position to sell birds or even eggs...but I do hope to start showing this spring and have a few trios to start a breeding program this summer. I should actually post some photos of my "younger" birds. They are getting so cute.

I think it is now OK for me to get in & out of my messages without my computer going brain Dead....so far this new Google Chrome is really helping speed things up.
The only other issue is (a maybe) that my computer driver may have issues communicating with the modem sometimes
but that has only happened 2 or 3 times since the Google Chrome.
So far, so good !
