watch the temperature, and a small hole, with an aquarium hose can lead to a sponge...a way to hydrate the bator.
Your problem is you have zero thermostat...but keep at it cuz it looks like you are getting the hang of it. !!!
More power to you !

I actually already have a tube in there! Might upgrade the thermostat though, my BF is good at that stuff and figures a digital is easier to program and keep in the correct temperature range. I love being able to be creative! and now my BF is getting more into this with me, BIG plus!

I think Illia hatched two of the tolbunt.

We ended up hatching 4 over the last few days, but lost the cochin chick today. But on a happy note, someone had posted on craigslist two free splash cochin chicks, so I picked those up tonight, although I think one is splash and one is blue, but that's cool. We also locked down tonight on the silver penciled plymouth rock bantam eggs, but only 3 have made it this far.

Still no sign of ducklings either. Momma's still sitting though....so it's still a wait and see game.

Tomorrow I'm picking up a BLRW cockeral to go with my gals, then I am going to have to do a recount and update my signature!

If you guys want some eggs to just try out I have some. I haven't had any luck selling eggs so you could have a dozen of mine for $5 ea. Their not designer on anything, but I have had 99% hatch rate. The eggs would be from my English Buff Orp and the hens are RIRs and EEs. PM me if you would like some I am close by.

DH is MacGiver, actually Einstien !
We have built our bator by using a fan from Radio Shack that is normally used for a computer about $15 and needs a DC transformer that is about the same price.
Then position it so that is blows down on a sponge, and the sponge in a styrofoam tray.
Then I drilled a hole, fixed aquarium tubing and applied a syringe body on top...so I can squirt water in the syringe body, it runs down and rehydrates the sponge.
The heating unit inside I ordered from Stromberg's, it is a seperate replacement heater/wafer thermostat for a big commercial brooder and it works fantasticly !
It cost about $50 with shipping.
You can go on line and find replacement parts for incubators and brooders, then affix them to your bator.
I affixed this heat system to the underside of a metal TV tray, to prevent melt down.
The TV tray is affixed to a wooden cabinet, with plexiglass door on top, and a wooden door in front.
It is big enough that I can keep the babies in there for a week or two, and fits an egg turner.
DH actually made two egg turner 'paddles' to go inside, and you turn the handles from the outside.
On lockdown, the paddles can be pulled out and the eggs laid down flat for the remainder of the hatch~
Wanna see pictures, ????
Maybe you can get a wafer thermostat, affix it to a 100-watt bulb, so the light will go on and off to keep the heat perfect ?
Look up incubator/brooder replacement parts !
It is so fun !!!

On another note, I will have to log on and see what happened with Illia, must have had trouble with fertility ?

I feel so bad for her !

She was so happy and had such giant plans for developing this breed.
Well, hopefully she has hens !
