Teeth, boyfriends, tummy aches - doesn't matter what's ailing your kids - it's hard when they're so far away and you can't give them that hug they need isn't it? Hope she's feeling better soon!

Well, it felt like spring cleaning time so I have been scrubbing walls and shower doors and cleaning drains...ect.
My hen is acting a little better, drinking and eating a little, her abdomen is not swollen and her crop isn't soft and warm any more. But she has been standing at the front of the cage with her eyes closed off and on??? I just don't get it. That would indicate to me she might be in pain, but, I can't locate it?? OMG!! The wind has been whipping around here since 2!! Gusting to 50mph or more!! When it first started my buck was walking around bellering!!

OK this is MOSTLY for pettec63 but actually for all. At one point in my past computer I had a link to a site that had poo pics with possible causes. Anybody know the site. It may have helped pettec. Also it used to be that the emergency thread was very fast to help but the last couple times I have turned there I had less than good results in getting help.

Now this is just IMO but from what you described sounds like she may have some impaction problems. I would be very careful about allowing more in until I saw some coming out if ya know what I mean !

I have it here is the site

just talked on the phone to Dad.
he said Lionel passed away sometime during the night and found him not waking up this morning.
He was the reason I joined this site because he was such a different looking bird. Because of him I have learned so much about chickens. I only have 1 bird left from my original flock 4 years ago.
He will be really missed.
Pidgin is doing well and bossy.

Im sorry, he's out of pain now.

X2 I did it, I planned, I dug the grave, I had the head stone, the wrap she would be buried in, and took her to the vet's backdoor and my wonderful vet came outside, sat in the door of the van & spoke softly, stated the IV, did the deed, and my beautiful best friend went to sleep.
Ok everyone, just for INFO, I make ceramic pots, some are for cremains, some I will make using pet ashes in the making of a pot. If you want to remember your pet, you can get him or her cremated and I will include the ashes in the urn, inside, in the clay, or in the glaze.

I don't like burying pets, since predators can dig them up - had it happen.

Well that's an interesting idea. When I had our last Golden put down (at 15 years old) I had him cremated. The box is still in the garage because I was going to have a headstone made for him, but the idea of an urn using his ashes is a good idea. I may need to talk to you about this - will you be going to Monroe?

Sad day today. Just got back from the vet with Abby. She woke up today with one of her front leg knees/elbows? really swollen and I forget what they called it, something with an H, fluid on the joint, can't drain it. Prednisone or Surgery were the only options and he advised neither at this time. While examining her, said he didn't like the sound of her breathing, he could tell she had limited lung capacity and suspected lung cancer. The x-rays confirmed. She came home with me because she still has a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, but he said it would be soon. He guestimated a month if we are lucky, probably much less.

Quote: Yep I had it in my bookmarks, it still wasn't clear cut tho! I'm thinking more and more she has a crop impaction!! although the size of her crop has gone down, she has only eat a little and it still feels squish and I just heard kind of a liquid sound??

I still have my favorite terrier in an urn with her collar around it, haven't had the guts to put it in the ground yet!

I hung Samantha's collar (red) on my door here for a few days.but everytime I heard that oh so familiar jingle (a sound like no other) I started in again, I'd turn to see her, look for her, she was ALWAYS by my side, she even went to work with me.
I had to take her collar off the door.
