Just wanted to say it was great fun yesterday seeing BYC friends I've already met and meeting those I hadn't before. Everyone was wonderful! Beautiful birds, nice folks, yummy lunch, great way to spend a Saturday!

I came home with two of CR's little metal chicks (surely sold over 14?!) and now wish I had bought more because they are so cool. Also got my six Ameraucana chicks from Pips N Peeps and two pullets and a new feed bag tote from CL.

Congrats to all whose birds won awards. I do have to specially congratulate WA4-HPoultryMom's girls, who pretty much swept the showmanship classes! Nice going Tamara!
Yes as I knew they would the WA peeps raised the bar. They bought 25 of the little chicks. I plan to have them at Stevenson. Also March 31I will be at the SWW fair grounds for a huge community yard sale. They say there will be 350 vendors. I plan to have then there too. Or can ship if someone wants to pay the postage or may be able to do a relay.

Sorry to have to disagree; I come from a country that was ruined by unions. All that unions do is protect the "senior" workers, even if they aren't very good, and do not in any way elevate the workers who do better than others. I still think a "meritocracy" is the best way for a civilization to survive.

and, it has been my experience that "most" (not all) people who prefer unions are those who could not survive without them.

I guess what i was referring to the many regulations that help everyone in the workplace today regardless of your jobs or affiliation. Hour limitations, especially for youth, meal breaks, minimum wage, minimum working conditions etc....things that in the beginning people came together as a union to fight for....I won't argue, that today there are things that should be changed. eliz

CR, I should have been more clear. I mean to wrap the building b4 putting up the t-111 to reduce the amount of moisture in the building. We seem to get alot of moisture were I am. I use to live in town and it would be dry there, but raining over here, I thought my friend was dreaming. Found out that he was right.
So you think the tar paper would attract the birds? I ask as I know very little about likes and dislikes of chickens.

Here is a picture of them in their traveling box when we first got home yesterday. I'm eagerly waiting to see how many turn out to be pullets. Maybe I will have to bring you one!

Oh stop! Those babies are way too cute- so fluffy and blue! I'm dyin' here. Congrats on the new babies Robin!

I am not positive about the tar paper. I have heard lots of stories about them pecking at and destroying styrofoam. They may do the same thing with tar paper. Also for what it's worth. As a beekeeper we have found that those who have screen bottoms on their hives have less moisture problems in the hive than those with a solid bottom.

SILKIE SILKIE SILKIE ! ! ! The AWESOME set it and (almost) forget it incubator. No worry of turning, no worry about if your hygrometer is off and you have wrong humidity, NO WORRY ABOUT POWER OUTAGES. Does it get much better?

Okay, I need some answers this is driving me nuts:

I am not responding to this post, but on how do you get all the quotes together. On this particular post....First Total colour made a comment...Pettec63 commented and then CR commented. When CR commented the line of all 3 showed. When I push "quote" only the one above does. How do I get it to do all of them? this has been driving me nuts since the beginning of the new site.

I've a question for about the coop I intend to house my gals in.
It's an old tool shed built about 14 years ago. I intend to move it to a different location in my back yard and redo the entire thing. (really needs it done)
I want to wrap the building (it's 8 x 12) to prevent moisture, at least as much as I can, and I was thinking of using 15# roofing felt. Would there be a problem with that due to the fact that the chickens will have access to the black paper? If so do you have another recommendation?

This is just my opinion. I wouldn't seal the coop up too tight you need some air circulation. You said wrap the building. Do you mean on the outside or the inside?. I use cardboard on the inside walls in the winter then in the spring I do take some of it down . If you use the felt I would put something over it. Like I said. Just my opinion Good luck
