Now I have to start over.....

I have not been out to look at the brassicas and lettuces I planted out into the garden. We start all of our stuff from seed too. Sorry to hear about what happened. If this rain doesn't cease soon, I will need a kayak to go out to plant.

Okay, so mine are not fart eggs. They are eggs with no shell. Why would a mature bird (2 or 3 years old) who has ample access to layer, and oyster shells. Clean environment. Has been wormed regularly. Plenty of room to run and roost...lay one?

also, NO ONE is laying. I took the heat lamp out, maybe I will put back in a llittle light to see if that will kick start them. I have 6 in the layer pen. There will be more added this summer...but the one who was laying went broody - so I put serama eggs under her.

Shell-less eggs can be caused by a multitude of reasons, but what has happened is the egg (membrane attached) passes too quickly through the hen's Uterus, also called "the shell gland" where the egg spends 80% of it's time as the egg shell is formed around the membrane, encasing it.
I have heard a frightened hen can lay a shell-less egg, hens disturbed by stress or fear.
It does not necessarily mean the hen has not enough nutirents or oyster shell.
Usually it happens more often in certain "high strung" breeds.
My Ameraucanas lay a "blob" egg as I call them, every once in a while.
If your birds are not laying it is due to light.
They must have 16 hours of light to activate the egg factory

I do not think the heat lamp will help...try a nice bright Florescent or at minimum a 60 watt incandescent bulb on a timer srat at 5 AM & off at 5 PM to start with..then they have a bit of day light left in which to seek a roost before it gets dark or they will be trapped on the coop floor if the light suddenly goes out & it is too dark for them to roost.

I was up all night sick I'll try and give you a call today.

Your right you cant have them with out a fence.

How much of a herder is he?

I love to hear him sing, he's wonderful and "Phantom of the Opera" is my all time Fav. My family gets so tired of me watching or lis. to it.

How long has she been laying them? Sorry dont remember. They also do this when they start up.

So I woke up and took care of my dog than smelt a really bad smell.

Oh you MUST go see him in person !!!!!!!!!!!
And sarah Brightman is AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, why did your bator smoke ?

I told my Mama a few years ago about how I had told a freind that she was "a pedigree Italian right off the boat"~~~~~~~~ she was slightly horrified !Don't tell them that !" she said.
"Why?" I asked her, "You have no idea how cool and 'IN' it is to be Italian !" and she laughed so hard !
Il Volo members are so cute !
And so talented !

All my bators are up & running (3) and all is well, T's in lockdown & pip is Sunday..........the 4 doz chickens eggs lock down is Sunday (is why I needed the 2nd hatching bator up & running.)

So, guess I can relax now & maybe get the drawings done on the house perspectives...need elevation drawings of all 4 sides & a cross cut of the center with the staircase so's we can guesstimate lumber needs.
DH left at 6 AM yesterday & arrived at his Dad's in NorCal at 6 PM...he must have been doing 80...........glad I got new tires on the van !!!!

Think good thoughts, Rikke [DW] has decided to take Marty (chicken) to the not so local animal hospital, the local vet won't see chickunz! Anyways .. they had an appointment for 1pm and I have yet to hear anything.

Hopefully the leg is just dislocated, or it is muscle damage and will repair ..

Anyone have any one legged chickens that seem to do ok ?
