I have tried talking to the guy with the pitbull/dalmation mix about training their dogs but he indicated they neither had the time or the money to train them. When the Doberman moved in last week he thought it was funny that when the dog wanted his ball he would jump up onto the table and stand with all 4 legs on the table to get it. Most folks I know with well behaved dogs don't let that happen in their home.
Since they are never in their yard with the child or dogs, I may just have to pop around the block and knock on their front door - with a gift of fresh eggs in hand - and continue our conversation. We'll also work on our fence and ask them to keep the little girl and dogs away from there and see if that helps.
What's that saying - "Good fences make good neighbors?"

Thank you for all the suggestions everyone - we will keep trying to get the situation under control in the most positive way possible!

Ssorry you are having so much trouble with the neighbor dogs and child. My neighbor with the pitbulls moved and now a nice family with no dogs and 3 cute little kids are fixing the place up an moving in. My chickens and the area of the yard where I usually hang out is far from their fence. So I don't forsee a problem. The mom eventually wants chickens too! SO this could be a really good thing. I love enabling!

My Sexlink Lucy is still swolen and breathing funny, and all fluffed up. I have decided not to take my chickens to the vet anymore because it hasn't helped at all. By the time they show signs they are usually REALLY bad. So I am trying it on my own(my vet gave me some good lessons) and if it works great, If not, she is older and has had a good life.

My Barred Rock is also 3-4 years old and has looked a little under the weather too, so she is getting the same treatment. She isn't breathing funny, but she is walkig slow and her comb is shrinking and when the younger one come around and bump into her she gets knocked around and looks a little unsteady of weak I guess.

If I lose my two old girls that will be the last of my original flock.

It makes me sad. But I know they have been spoiled rotten and had a really good life here.

Well out to check on everybody.....in the Sunshine! Love it!

Hope everyone gets to enjoy a little bit of it!

XO,
Kim

Im so sorry, Yep Id get saving and a nice tall fence. You know in Seattle you can build a berm up to 3 feet high than put a fence on it. That would be 9 feet tall. I was told I could do that were I use to live. Did do it on one side..

Fences, nice and tall, are a good thing!

So, the eggs himself bought at auction (he said he liked the chocolate coloured ones in the box); well, I put the four dark ones in the 'bator - I didn't think they'd hatch. But this morning, there were four black feather legged little chickies, two Icelandics and one Welsh Harlequin Duckling! They are all a day early, and there are several more pipping!

Oh, and himself took me to Portland yesterday to buy painting supplies and then for lunch at a really nice Mexican place. And, we bought some really nice wine in a little wine shop. A fun day!

That sounds like a lovely day! Congrats on your hatch! Still loving the idea of Harlequins, but until I get control of my environment again I'm not adding any more poor little babies to our yard.

This just in:
The neighbors have TWO MORE DOGS! DH went out a while ago to let our dogs out and 2 schnauzers came running up to our fence. The woman who owns the lab and the house said she "saw them running down the street, thought they looked scruffy, so decided to bring them home." DH suggested since they are obviously siblings and purebred dogs that someone is looking for them. They do have collars, but no ID. He said she should look in the paper in lost and found or call the Humane Society. She said again, "Well, they looked pretty scruffy". (I saw the dogs and they looked good to me) So he said again, "You should take them to the Humane Society. Someone is going to be worried about those dogs."
She didn't respond. She just turned and went back into her house.

DH and I put leashes on our dogs, jumped into the car and took them down to Chambers Bay Golf Course so we could walk the dogs by the waterfront and get rid of some steam.

So you need to wait a while than turn them in for to many dogs. I dont think they will stop. But Id sure wait a while and in the mean time give them eggs and tell them how nice they are and how good it is for them to save the dogs. That way they wont think its you who turned them in. And when they tell you whats going on be so suprised
