I was talking about the run - you can tell I'm new, huh? We have 3 chicks, and the run is 3x10. We plan to let them roam the yard when the weather's nice, but we *are* in Seattle.

ETA: Responding to Zgoatlady (Thank you!)

Argh! I just wasted a week with someone who answered my CL ad for some of our project birds. At first it sounded really exciting, she was putting together her breeding flocks and that's always a lot of fun to help someone with, but then it started taking 2 days to get any response and when it came, it didn't answer any question I put to her, had no information as to her setup, and she wouldn't commit to a farm visit. After a week of these delays, I finally sent her an email explaining that this wasn't how I do business and I find these repeated delays very disrespectful to my time an energies. End of communication and Flake Filed her, so if she emails again (and they nearly always do), I can minimize any contact or time put in.

I sometimes wish we had a database of these idiots so we'd all be forewarned - so and so arrives hours late, sucks up hours of your time but won't commit to buying birds, brings kids who chases your birds and upsets your rooster, wears street shoes to your farm despite being told to wear appropriate shoes, waffles when its time to pay for their birds, tries to make deals that are outrageous, skips out (I had one do this Sunday) without paying, ignores proper care of the chicks then wants you to replace them for free, etc.

We all do this somewhat informally, of course, and I will warn some local folks about the above gal to give them fair warning. Most of them are less patient than I am, so I doubt they'll put up with that for long.

How do you all deal with these time sink flakes?
I hate craigslist. To be specific, I hate putting my ads out on craigslist, and my husband stop posting his ads there too. I'm sure it's wonderful and all in its own way, but we got a lot of calls from flaky, impatient and cheap people and no good leads. So, I am absolutely not surprised by your experience. My friends love CL. They are not flakes. I have used it. But still.

Also, ever try Bag Balm? that stuff will cure anything. The best.

This is what dh uses, and it works nicely. He is a pro gardener and forever has trouble with cracking fingertips, even when wearing gloves. The only thing he found that worked better was the USP lanolin, often sold as nipple cream for nursing mothers. That one is a big commitment, though, as it is supremely sticky. My daughter is allergic to bag balm.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend I will try to pop in but I have much to do... My baby turns 3 today.... So we are having his Pizza Party tomorrow so today I have to run around and get his cake and a few last min items. Then tomorrow after the party I start laying my new floor...

Worms - red wigglers for your bin (Wallingford)

My red wigglers survived the winter so well that I have too many. I have two worm bins (and lots of worm castings and 'tea' for my plants and gardens as a result!!) - and have removed about 1/2 the worms. If you'd like to set up a worm bin, or have an active compost - these healthy, happy wigglers are for you.

Just want to be sure that those that send me pm's just so you know if I don't answer till 6 hours later or something like that it isn't cause I'm ignoring you I get on and don't log out. Sometimes I check it during the day it all depends on my work schedule. So you'll see me on line but most the time I'm not really here but this site is like dial up for me so one less step of logging in helps.

If I end up getting booted off of here I can be reached at my work email [email protected]

Apparently BYC authority here has a power trip going on and likes to treat people like kids instead of discussing ideas like adults.

What ever floats their boat.

It's been said and I'll leave the subject at this......................

" If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around."

Happy birthday to him! My DH birthday is today too.

The person with THEE best chicken pens is RedRooster Farms.................Annie, she has a system to drool for..................I have seperate coops & pens, but under various roofs, hers are all organized in one long barn...awesome !!!

Thanks! Summer we open one end and winter we close it. We have an incubator room, brooder room and a room with sink and table for what ever and then pens inside to go to the outside runs. Then the out side runs on the east side open into the fenced pasture for letting them in long grass.

awesome set up. My husband was thinking last night of getting one of those steel buildings. Probably alot cheaper then having a stick built barn built. Thanks for sharing your pictures
