So these are your silkies? They are adorable little fuzzy butts! I have 9 growing silkies in the incubator right now along with 7 Seramas, due to hatch Monday the 14th. I can hardly wait! (Except that means I'm going to have to find a place to put them...) Congrats on your hatch! So what's with the one's leg? Is it spraddle leg?
Chickens are such a crack up when they dust bathe. The first time I saw one I thought it was dead, now I just get a kick out of watching them. Today I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants, Buttercup was in her bath, looking for all the world like she was in her final throes of death. Hilarious!
Until.....
I come back 10 minutes later, and she looks dead. I go to pet her, and she's dead! I just laughed hysterically at her during her in her final moments. Crap! I feel terrible. Why do they just up and die like that? Anyway, RIP Buttercup, Tyrant-Queen-of-the-Worm-Hunt. You were the first. You were the best. You were The Boss. You were the standard by which I measure all chickens.![]()
Post a photo...maybe it is a girlie...just with a bit more comb. Someone on here will let you know. Sorry, I don't need one. I have 5 right now. LOL.Well I am in a pickle.. I have 4 chicks and I was told they were all girlies, well it looks like one of my RIR is not really Louise but a Louis. YIKES! I am not 100% sure as I am a first time chicken owner, but he/she looks different than the others.. smaller tail feathers, getting a much larger comb and brighter on top, the others barely have one and they are very pale.. sooo I guess I need to find a home for him as I can not have roosters in town. Any takers??? He is already super friendly and I would willingly give him to a good home
OMG did an accurate baby count of the baby bunnies. there are 10 babies in the box. It was a big litter and the mom bunny is just so lovey to everyone (me and kids and hubby) it is almost like she's super proud of herself. The birds (turkeys, ducks and chickens and the dang pigeons) are enjoying having more room to run in. I go outside and when they hear me they all run to the front side of the pen making noises. They are awesome. I think I upset one of hubby's grandchildren today when they were over.. He wanted to know what all my birds' names were and I told him only a few have names because some are being raised for the freezer. He told me I was mean and they should all be house pets. But I still got a hug when they left so I guess all is forgiven. I forget that the grandkids don't understand the purpose of some animals as food. My kiddos do and always tell me if any birds get mean they get to go to the freezer because mean birds aren't fun at all.
I had someone come and look and sure enough.Post a photo...maybe it is a girlie...just with a bit more comb. Someone on here will let you know. Sorry, I don't need one. I have 5 right now. LOL.
Can anyone tell me if Delawares do well in our climate? Right now I have (pullets):
1 RIR
3 Buff Orpington
2 Black Australorp
2 Welsummer
2 Easter Egger
and I want to get 2 of the available pullet Delaware 5.5 week olds when I go back to return my rooster on Saturday. WDYT? I really want 12 layers and he only has Delawares of the same age as my girls.
