Surprisingly, the Phoenix area has some animal friendly neighborhoods. there are lots of homes with an acre or less in town with horses and anything else allowed. When I first moved there I was surprised to see a flock of sheep in a front yard. There's a swath of land running east to west from Scottsdale, thru Phoenix and over to Glendale that allows animals. And many other areas with horses. that's why I was so freaked at not being able to have animals way up in the boonies with a fenced acre. The lady that complained didn't even live next door. She was behind and over a couple of acres. She even brought us a copy of the covenants from the 1970's or so. They were never filed or instated. She was a major pain in the a** .

That stinks.. I live in a small rural community and up till last year we could not have chickens or rabbits. But now we can have 4 hens and 1 female rabbit. No other farm type animals. Sadly here its neighbors that complain about dogs not chickens and rabbits we deal with. This one guy walks past my house and my dogs bark trying to get him to come and pet them and all he does is swear at them. He is a pain in the neck!

I tell ya - I can't wait until I have a coop built and the babies are old enough to not require heat. This whole thing of trying to get them out of their brooder and into the greenhouse (where it is a nice toasty 80-90 degrees on the ground) each day is for the birds. Their brooder is a 4 foot long dog kennel - and guess where they go whenever I go to get them?

Yep! To the back of the dog kennel! I get to climb inside the dog kennel three times every morning just to catch each chick.

Today was my girl's first day outside, and my husband made this quick pen from fencing we had.. lol and I agree it was a major pain in the tush! WOW!

I need to get our coop and run done as well so I can get them in it. Mine stay in the house. We are no longer using a light, they aer 4 weeks but they seem to be doing just fine, so I decided to nix the light.. Good luck!!!!!

Treated the girls to half a cup of air popped popcorn today and they went nuts! Super cute stuff going on, I love the chase!

So...I just realized I need some more info on deep littering my girls. I have been adding shavings every few days to cover over the poop and make a new layer but didn't realize I needed to stir it until I kinda fell on some info somewhere else. The coop has been just a little stinky (NO ammonia, just slightly poo smelling) the last few days and I thought "deep litter isn't supposed to stink like this so soon!" so I'm glad I read that. I took the rake out there and literally raked it all into a big pile in the middle then spread it back out again and I can't believe how compressed it had gotten. Now the girls have a very stink-free fluffy coop again. What else do I need to know about deep litter?

Glad the girls had some fun outside! I started taking mine out before we had a pen for them and they actually all (11) stayed right near me! It was really interesting to see their flock mentality sticking close to mama (me) those first few times outside.

Forgot to add above, that as soon as the girls went back in their coop they were so happy, picking through the litter like it was Christmas day! I threw in some meal worms all over to encourage them to scratch it up a bit, but I'll probably reserve using them for that job for when the weather is bad and I can't rake...once they're big enough for scratch.

woohoo! I just got rid of my EE cockerel to someone who needed a roo for her flock - NOT to eat! yay!

Now does anyone need an LH cockeral? 15$. Not for breeding, he's got charcoal shoulders.

I should have introduced this guy the other day. This is Jake (short for Jake Brake; my trucking days influence) my mini Dauchund that weighs 18 pounds and mostly muscle. Trying to hold him when he wants down is a chore. This is the sweetest dog I have ever owned and I've had really, really good luck with my dogs.

I think I am still living in the trucking days!!! ex hubby is a trucker doing container port runs, hubby is trucker doing shuttle run of empty trailers to lacey and loaded to pasco. Oh and I used to go along with ex when he drove a log truck. Jake Brake is a great name for dogs... and I have a last name of wheeler... you wouldn't guess how many people want to mispell that. I tell them wheeler like 18 wheeler... then they get it right.

I do love the pic of your dog his eyes are so full of expression..

Figured I would post 4 day old bunny pictures.. there are still10 alive which is amazing to me!

And here is what my coop looks like: THis shows the lower pen. It is what we started out with.
