It looks like out of 11 eggs I got 3 Seramas growing 2 of which are from the loose air cell eggs. One silkie egg and one EE egg looks to have something growing it. So out of 26 eggs I have 5 eggs that might hatch.

I was testing my barred rock eggs. But it looks like she is to fast for him. No blue sex link eggs

Question: I'm thinking I want to paint the inside of the coop. It's SO dark in there and I just feel bad for the girls. First, what kind of paint do I use? Second, when do I paint so that the fumes won't kill or harm the birds? It's going to need a MAJOR cleanout before I paint (and I think it will need to be hosed out; how does one dry out a shed after it's hosed out???); will there be enough time to clean it, hose it, dry it, and paint it before they need to go back in there for the night?

I use latex gloss paint. Usually white - but if I can find a deal at Restore I take it.

The best way to dry the shed is to let the sun shine on it -- I think it would be difficult to get it cleaned, dried and painted in one day. You might want to consider just getting it as clean as you can without washing, and then put a couple good coats of paint on it.

Bellevue tomorrow -- my job is taking me there. Anyone close by have POL birds for sale? I need to feed the racoons .. err... I mean I need to keep up on my egg production. I have 10 hens in 'jail' because they'd rather sit on eggs than lay them. Durn broodies.

New hot wire goes up around the fence this weekend. In the mean time -- I'll stand watch early evening/morning. That coon has another thing coming.

OK thanks. *sigh* I think I'm redoing the inside of the coop too. The top shelf and roost are just too high for me to be able to scoop the poop in the morning; my arm was seriously hurting this morning. I think I'll rip everything out in one day (need to be a hot day so the girls can be outside all day and I can work my bum off and the paint will dry. I need to cut more holes in it for windows/ventilation, redo the roosts, and paint. Thinking this would be done best on a warm day. That will also be when I remove all the litter for the first time. They've only been in there 4-5 weeks so maybe I'll wait a few more weeks, it's really quite clean still. Or maybe you want to help me with all that when you're here? I bet you're a whiz at cutting a shelf and installing to fit around all the dumb wall supports. That would take me all day though!

We can work on whatever you need :) Working on arrangements for 4 other jobs - might piggyback them all on one trip. Stay tuned :)

VF - you wanna make me external nest boxes? We could cut a hole in the coop while you're here and install them! I would LOVE to not have to go into the coop to get eggs every day!

Oh, I am so sorry! I read about that. It could have been a racoon that reached in and pulled it's head through the wire. Or, a weasel or a mink. An owl might have gotten to it, too. Different predators take different parts of the bird.
We have minks??
