I am coming up on day 10 and would like some advise. I have a lot of duds and about 5 fertile eggs. So if I took out all the duds then the temps in the incubator might fluctuate more. I have a little Giant styrofoam incubator. No fan in it. Should I leave the duds in there to help with the tempture? I am going to take out the couple of blood rings.

How well do your silkies lay? I have read a few different things some say very poor only 1 or less a week but others say average about 3 a week? I am thinking about getting Bearded Splash... is it true that if you bread a Splash to a Splash you get 100% Splash? I know nothing about breeding so just wondering. Thanks
I have 2 that lay pretty good 4 to 5 eggs per week when not broody then I have my black who lays about 3 eggs a week but has yet to go broody and she is a little over a year.

Pull your duds - you don't want it to explode.

I would like to know comments on this too. I do leave some of the duds in for the very reason of helping to hold temp.

Sundog: (again I can't quote) but sounds like you know what you are doing. I have always cut a small chunk out of the nipple. It never works the other way. The cereal works great...they get the formula in them and a little more "substance" to help hold them - and some extra "goodies" - works great. Gives them something to get in their mouth as they are learning to eat like this. With the fleas and ear mites everyone is right, bet there are worms - baby's usually have worms anyway. Might want to take her to the vet, don't buy the over the counter wormer - get some from the vet if you can. It works so much better. Also, they have the better topical stuff for flea control. Probably need to give her a bath first - you have fun with that. LOL.

Okay, My mother-hen control-feakiness will leave you alone.

Luna is having a graet morning! She has no fleas... lol she did have ear mites but those are basically gone. She has been to the vet and aside from the fleas has a clean bill of health :) This morning she ate straight off a plate, she had a tiny bit of baby food chicken with rice and formula.. And yes NO cows milk..lol She is on kitty formula! Ya those nipples are a pain, you have to cut a small chunk out or everyone is frustrated.. lol She is my 3rd bottle baby..But she was my hardest to get eatting. Granted the others I had from birth when they were runts. Lil Miss Luna had a few other factors for her to deal with. The shock alone! OMG! I could kill people!!! lol

LOL On the Mother-Hen hahahaha It is all good! I am just glad soo many people care! Thank you EVERYONE!!!!!!
