Yes, a dog crate would work - or section off a small portion of the run.
Quick question: how hard would it be (too risky, cause injuries, etc) to integrate a roo into my flock? I really want one to protect my girls; right now there are 8 girls and they're all so spacey when they are outside! They just stared at a crow in the yard and he swooped down but didn't hurt them. They are 10 weeks old today and I would get a same age roo. What do you think?
I kinda thought this. But should I still keep them separate for a day and then put them all in the coop when it's dark so they don't really know he's there, or care much?If you get a young(er) roo - you shouldn't have any problems. At 8 or 10 weeks they really don't know they are boys yet![]()
Did I mention I had a roo at one point and got rid of him?! Ugh. I am so bummed he's gone and now I really want to replace him! I am going to get Dawn's EE cross 7 week old at the end of next week after Dave builds my run. Oh well about the other roo though, he was kind of a jerk at only 5 weeks old and he was a RIR. I didn't want a roo RIR. This one should suit us well and protect the girls, not to mention he's such handsome eye candy!![]()

Maybe we can figure out something for the roo while I'm there.
Yeah we'll see what's left when all the projects are doneI was kinda hoping there'd be enough scrap to make some sort of cabinet inside the run for feed containers and shavings, extra's like grit and oyster shells. yada yada. If it's not doable, oh well we'll buy something, but if it's a quick thing then why not?!
