4cats3kids1hubby2many You are doing the right thing. It's hard and hurts.
Know that good things come in life many times through pain.
My bet is you and your Husband will look back at this point and be happy that both of you were on the same page doing what needed to be done.

WOW. We went to Home Depot tonight to pick up everything Dave will need for the run. Wow. just...wow. I know the run is going to be completely fabulous, but that's a lot of moolah!

WOW! Love your set up! That's awsome.

Have I told you all how I store my chickens' feed? I'm so excited! About a month ago I picked up 2 different sizes of THESE plastic storage vaults, the largest one and one of the smaller ones. They.are.awesome! The largest one (pricey, but worth it, it's airtight and watertight) I just found out today holds ***80***lbs (YES! 80 POUNDS!) of Scratch & Peck! That means I can buy in bulk without worrying about the grains going bad before I use them, and they'll stay even fresher in there than the bags they come packaged in! Pretty awesome if you ask me. My mom had one for cat food storage and I loved it so much at her house I decided I needed them for the chickens. I keep scratch in the smaller one, along with several packages of asstd things like grit, antibiotics, treats, etc. And no, I'm not associated with Petsmart or Vittle Vault

Those look cool. Since they are plastic, I'd recommend storing them in your garage. A rat could chew a hole through those easily - and they'll go after the feed. My compost bin is made from very thick plastic. A rat chewed through it.

We've been spending the moolah, too. I keep telling myself - Rhodie survived being a very sick baby chick AND being in a dog's mouth, Drama recovered from a leg injury, and was nearly trampled by that dog, and Caunnie was almost trampled by the dog - and they're only 8 weeks old! The way I see it, if they've managed to survive all of that in such a short life, they definitelly deserve a nice coop and run.

I bought a bunch of hardware cloth today. And, hubby is looking at the automatic chickendoors.com chicken door right now.

They'll be stored in the run....which only has 1/2" holes in the hardware cloth. I don't think we'll have a problem. Not to mention they are so airtight and such thick plastic, that NO smell gets out at all. It shouldn't attract rats but I'll keep an eye out for sure.

I did a little

I just played the sound for Don and he admitted he did think it was a bear but did not want to scare the kids. I knew we should not run and look like prey, but I was not sure what to do other than keep talking and walking fast toward the road. Those skinny alder sure were not support any of us if we had to climb a tree! It really scared me that the bear was much closer the second set of growls, he sounded extremely close then.

A friend of mine lives in North Bend. Last summer we were training for the Girlfriend's Half Marathon and I went up there to walk with her. We started walking late, and I thought, wow, this is so pretty - the elk everywhere. It ended up getting dark on us, and we were booking it as fast as we could go. I had no idea there were bears up there. I could tell my friend was anxious to get back, but she never said anything. When we got back, she told me what she was afraid of. Oh my gosh - I was thinking this is crazy! What the heck were we doing out there if there were bears around.

Hey guys! Just wanted to check in really quick...been really busy with life! :)

Now is the busy time of year for my job (end of school year for truancy court is CRAZY!) and DH is now off for the summer--so that's nice...

Audrey is doing well. Growing like a weed. Has two bottom teeth. Crawling everywhere! Pulling herself up to stand. Loves mac & cheese and avocados. She's pretty much sleeping through the night **knocks on wood**

I lost a very nice Sumatra hen yesterday--I suspect she had an egg break inside of her...she was a first year layer and kept giving me odd-shaped eggs. Dropped over without warning. :( My others are doing well.

I still have several breeds I'm trying to get rid of, if anyone is looking. I just have to reduce my numbers (and mostly, my projects). The price of feed has gone up by $20 here--so it's now costing me $100/month to feed everything.

I finally got some SLW bantam hatching eggs that are coming in the mail this week so I'm setting those to eventually use to work on my dun-laced bantams. I have two in the brooder now that are looking promising.

We lost power briefly at some point last night (bad thunder/lightning/wind/pounding rain)--I had 10+ goose eggs in the 'bator, ready to hatch TODAY and I lost all but ONE gosling. :( So I'm sending in the egg membrane tomorrow to get DNA sexed...if it's a gander, he'll be for sale...a goose, I'm keeping.

I found out tonight that my 90-year old grandmother fell on Saturday, broke her leg & her hip and is in a nursing home--so I'm taking Friday off of work and going over to Seattle to see her this weekend. She hasn't seen Audrey since Christmas.

Anyway, that's my brief update...I hope everyone is well. Oh and send me PMs or email me off BYC to get a hold of me. I do log in about once a day to check my PM's and posts but I usually do it after 10pm and don't have time to respond to everyone. :(

Gotta go out & Bar-be-Que now & suddenly a COLD wind has blown in off the Ocean.
IT IS FREEZIN !!!!!!!!!

He is 78 year young !

He broke his leg when I was a little kid & built a scale model plastic "beagle" sailing ship....and he loved it.
So hopefully he will love this as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! That is a cool gift (of course as long as he is into model building).
