Okay.....today I found a brown speckled egg in the nest....? Does anybody have a black star that lays brown speckled eggs? This would be the first time I've received one from her.

I have two barred rocks that are 20 weeks old from a hatchery, but if they are laying already, then they must have got their 'first one' out of the way somewhere in the bushes. Besides, I haven't seen either of them on a nest yet.

Strange.

well it is definate. One of my oddball white chickens is for sure a roo. He's out in the pen practising his crowing. Such nice sounds. The cows mowed down my sunflower plants but we are down to 2 cows now instead of 3. The land lady got ahold of the the guy who owned the one and he came and got the cow.

And a big surprise for me.... I have left the incubator alone. Put eggs in there on 5-25 and more on 6-3. Well one of the 5-25 eggs hatched out a fuzzy footed baby. And at least 5 more of the eggs have pipped. even though these aren't my eggs it is still exciting to have them hatch.

Sad note: another one of the turkey babies died. I realize it is hard to raise them but it was all of a sudden. he was up and chirping one minute and laying down hardly breathing the next. No time to do anything for him but let him go in peace. So now i am down to 2 baby turkeys. Hoping they survive so we will see.

Really!!!!! Sure am glad I don't have to meet yer DS ! ! !

HA HA HA he is almost 7 foot tall & the sweetest guy !!!
He is on FB.....think you have met him at poultry shows in Monroe ?

Thanks. I have to ask hubby on it. Right now I can't drive very far on my own as my motion sickness has been in full swing and even scrolling on the computer hurts my head. So he is my transport for much beyond Puyallup/Orting/Lewis McCord.

I really should go to base and see my doctor about it. I've had a big issue since I got this cold a month ago. All that nose blowing did something in my ears, and I have always had an issue anyway. The trip over to Umatilla was horrid for me. Then we had to go between Umatilla and Kennewick for shopping and the baby shower. OMG, I've never felt so bad as Sunday when the sun was so bright there. Hubby likes to keep it ice cold in the truck which helps me, but Mom doesn't do that cold.
Hope you get better !!!!!!!!!!!

Also, what's the best antibiotic to have on hand? Today I bought some Terramycin Duramycin-10 (by Durvet) to have on hand in case adding these new birds to our flock doesn't go well; figured it's best to have something bought already. They also had Sulmet but it was more expensive. Should I keep both around? What's the difference?
I have LS-50, usually best for chicks, for CRD (or preventing it)
Tylan for water (tastes awful in the water) chooks hate it.
Tylan injectible for bad CRD, and Denagard (the best) for water.
I also have a jug of Sulmet & several pouches of Neomed.used for bacterial issues such as Bumble foot & skin issues.
Duramycin is a good start, for birds hurt/skin torn from predators, etc.

They changed it to 20 feet which is still a joke for those with small properties.
I guess all dog houses should be the same then according to these people.
To limit people to six chickens is once again a showing of their ignorance.
The constitution once again is trampled on.

He broke his leg when I was a little kid & built a scale model plastic "beagle" sailing ship....and he loved it.
So hopefully he will love this as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need a Hav-A-Hart trap & a can of cat food, works great !
DH fixed ours that an egg customer ran over a few days ago.
Was that the same lady that Einstein thought was Amish?
Glad he was able to repair the trap!

Today has started out to be a pretty good day to be a beekeeper. First I went to remove a colony that had moved into a wood duck house. They were about 16' up a tree. I was able to loosen the box and slide a bee bag over the entire thing. Once I got it home I did the carve out and installed in a hive. I was able to make up 5 frames with what the bees had.
Then while I was putting the hive in the field I figured that I would check the 3 dead boxes. What a surprise to find that 2 of 3 have renters.

The bear we heard while we were walking on Monday sounded just like this

Don said it was someone trying to start a motor on something.
Um, that's no motor! That sound is pretty terrifying. Glad none of you had a close encounter with the "motor".
