Deborah, you might talk with WA 4-H PoultryMom. She has a 4-H family that is really interested in a splash Silkie for the kids to work with, and might also be interested in some females to keep him company.

Ok I have 3 roosters available

Goliath the Black lavender split Orpington
He is as big as my 3 year old rooster if not bigger just not filled out yet.. Very nice beetle green sheen!

A Olive egger mid sized rooster.
Black and just a little bigger then my bantams with a nice beetle green sheen

Speedums a Bantam Easter egger cross that is mostly white with coloring starting to show in hackles, tail and shoulders.
mid sized with beard/muffs

All three are nice friendly and healthy birds.
All need to go or will be in the stew pot soon.

My mama broody just hatched some BBS Ameraucana chicks we counted 7 so far. She is still in the flower pot which is now in my extra large dog crate so when the babies do get out of the pot I can remove it and they are still protected. Most are blues!

Hi! I mostly just watch the thread, but today I actually have a question! 1. Does anyone have Orpington/Wyandotte chicks around the Auburn area? 2. How long does it take til the chicks are in full feather? Planning on building my coop, but the feed store here is out of chicks.

depends on the weather.... they start at 95F for first week of life then bump down 5 degrees per week on average.
Always have a warm spot on one end and a colder spot on the other. you can tell when they need to be bumped down in temps as the sleeping huddle moves away from the center of the heat spot.
so if temps are warm then they can go out sooner as long as you have a warm spot for them especially when the sun goes down

4Hmom has very nice Blue laced red wyandottes and I think she might still have some? (I'm way behind so sorry if I'm incorrect)

I have 2 buff orpingtons available that are outside chicks now at 9-10 weeks old not sure on the sexes yet tho.

I was working with her to take some birds off her hands and she commented that she had not one more piece of room for another bird. Guess that's out.

Did I mention that one of the GLWs is broody????? Come on, you KNOW you want her!!!

Thanks, but I don't need the guest room. I'm next door to Covington, on Benson Hill.
My next door neighbor just took out 3 cedars, which opened up about 30% of my front yard and 40% of his. I asked him what he was going to do, in his yard. He told me to do whatever I wanted, in his yard. He doesn't like yard work. Guess I have a project now.

Sounds like you have a nice neighbor !

In the past it was "never cut hay before the 4th of July". Any more it's gett er done whenever ya can.
I drove out to Oly yesterday and every field of hay was getting cut !
We also have different climes here on the coast, quite often socked in with cold drizzly-ish fog and depressing as CR said...then if we drive to Aberdeen it is windy & clear.

Actually, we are looking for silkies for one of our 4-H families!!! I didn't realize you had any silkies! We were going to take Robin's splash silkie roo for them, but not sure if that's going to happen. We would love to take your's if he's available! And I will check with them to see if they want any of your others.

Reminder that there is a meeting in Kirkland tonight at 7:00 p.m. where they will decide the fate of backyard chickens.

I was told they are trying to put a limit on the amount of chickens - even for those that are on acerage (a lot of the incorporated areas) to 20 chickens - going down as you get on smaller lots to 3 chickens on a small lot.

They are trying to ban roosters (we have them granfathered in the old King Co area - I didn't even know this until just a couple days ago that I can have one!)

They are also trying to put "building codes" in place - including having "1/2 chicken wire" (which you all know doesn't exist - they mean hardware cloth) around AND under the coop, a minimum height of 1" (yes inch) and a maximum height of 6' feet.

Now people that have no idea how to care for chickens are going to tell me how to build my coop?

PLEASE come if you are able to help the folks that have acerage in the incorporated areas to save their chickens!
