Maybe I will pack up my chooks & move to North Carolina with my measly SSD check !
Way more bang for the buck !

P.S. She has sent one after another just like this, some with up to 40 acres of land attached !
I'll give ya six months in N. C. and you'll be back. You won't be able to take the humidity

I'm amazed. Dave is a machine! He arrived, got his trailer set up, and immediately got to work unloading tools and lumber. After surveying the site for a minute he got to work and after only an hour or so building we have walls! My kids were quite the helpers. Hopefully I can keep them out of the way better tomorrow.

Hi,
New to BYC and stumbled on this thread. I live near Lake Tapps, between Auburn and Puyallup. I started this year with 10 call ducks to use for herding practice with my dogs. I have 2 australian shepherds and a border collie. I had heard that Calls wouldn't actually hatch babies so I didn't worry about having any babies. Stupid me! I've had 36 babies this year. I now have 13 young ones in the brooder and 8 adults in the pen. I've been so fascinated with the whole baby thing that my dogs haven't worked the ducks since Oct and I've now built and extra pen for next year's babies. Anyone else in the area raising calls?

Well, another grey drizzly day, cool, imagine that.
Will we ever have summer ?
It is barely what I'd call 'spring' !
CR: What are your high & low temps up there ?
Mo: what are yours ?
Just curious if we are just socked in with drizzly cool weather here & everyone else has sun, it has happened.
Going to town to pick up eggs at the PO & get wrapping paper for Dad's gift & stuff to make a pasta salad to bring....talk to y'all later

I think we got to 56 today .... brrr. My sister called me from her home about an hour north of Sacramentto and it was 102. I prefer something right in the middle.

Well that was the longest meeting EVER!!!

I guess things could have gone worse. To sum it up quickly - everyone in Kirkland will be able to keep chickens (this is new), some folks in the incoporated areas will lose roosters, and a lot of people in those same incorporated areas will be "out of compliance" on numbers.

I did stand up and speak; did my best to vote for roosters & lots of chickens.

They are still deliberating - but here is what it looks like SO FAR:

They are getting rid of the coop design clauses - the chicken owners there were able to convince the council that they are unecessary.

They decided to make one set of laws for two very different areas (there went my rooster.)

No minimum size property - but there are big enough setbacks in place that a smaller lot might be out of regulation.

Number of chickens will depend on property size:
  • up to 5000 sqft - 3 birds
  • every 1000 sqft - 1 more bird
  • max 20 birds (this will cause issues with some of the folks in the incorporated areas!!!)

No more roosters on lot sizes smaller than 35,000 sqft in the recently incorporated areas. This makes me SOOOO SAD!!!!

However - they are now allowing roosters on any property over 35,000 - so some properties that have not had roosters for years will now be allowed them.

They will depend on complaints for enforcement.

Must go to bed now - have to be up at 5 for work! Had no idea those meetings could go so late!

I hope my area of North Bend never becomes incorporated. Thanks for going to the meeting and posting what went on.

Hi! I mostly just watch the thread, but today I actually have a question! 1. Does anyone have Orpington/Wyandotte chicks around the Auburn area? 2. How long does it take til the chicks are in full feather? Planning on building my coop, but the feed store here is out of chicks.

Welcome! I don't have what you are looking for, but I'm a neighbor. I'm in Auburn. My chicks are 9 weeks old and they look pretty well feathered. Feathers come in fast. If you get little ones, though - start the temp at 95 degrees and step it down 5 degrees each week. We used to stop by the feed store (Reber) each week after church to look at the chick. We were sad when they were gone. :(
