I'm asking because I think the tiny hutch *would* work for 3 bantams. I could put a roost in the 3 sided part along the back, and add a small ledge inside the smaller enclosed part of the hutch for a nest box for those girls....

I'm telling ya a hand saw with metal hacksaw blade is the only way... unless fiberglass, then a cicular saw will work...
ok so I have a few small pieces that I'll try that on and see. Id love to do it with out the husband helping me

I was thinking the same thing.

I got the privledge of seeing Rainwolf's birds a couple times.
I can vouch that they are crazy friendly. I was afraid of stepping anywhere.

Russ- vainly resisting chicken math.

Does it work to have a coop/run with secondary coop/hutch in the run, and will the different birds return to their respective "homes" each night?

Maybe and yes....

You have to coop them for at least a week in their personal coop before they will home roost.... but I have 3 coops... all 3 coops free range in my yard.. all three go back to their coop. every once in awhile one will cross coop but not often.

the mutual run might be a issue.... if you can divide it in half with coops on each end at least for awhile then they can learn to mingle. But I never introduce my juvies to adults in a confined area.... they all meet while free in the yard so there is room to run and hide.

I lost a full 8' panel due to splitting... so I tried everything to make it faster then by hand... all of them made chips, cracks, splits etc... the only reliable way was by hand sigh.... I had to do 15 panels by hand

I'm really lost on posts because we've been building our run (which is DONE BTW... except the roof. We threw some plywood up there until we made our roofing decision). That said... I'm not sure what has been going on in conversation, so if I'm replying to something that doesn't make sense to you at all, just give me a virtual

.

I have been researching the corrugate roofing. I picked up info from Lowe's on how to cut and install it. One of the directions mentioned using a circular saw with a plywood blade reversed. My husband said it has to be a fine tooth plywood blade or it would probably chip. He also said a masonry saw might work best. I don't know. Fortunately, I get to leave the decision on how to cut that stuff to him. He's installed it before, so I'm sure he'll be fine installing it again.

hrmmmm reversed.... that might work
I used a fine tooth blade but my saw was not adjustable speed so it went to fast and would bounce it to splitting or breaking when I tried....

Would keeping 3 of them in that tiny hutch for a full week be mean? Or are you talking about partitioning the run (which could be done I think) and letting them have access to their tiny coop and part of the run? Gah! Now you've got me hooked! Heck, I even want to just take the hutch out of the run entirely and put it on the other side of the backyard, but then they wouldn't have a run if I needed them confined for some reason...
