My chickens can get under the barn. when we had two ducks they too could get under the barn but had no contact with the chickens under there. they had their seperate runs. I haven't had the ducks for over three months. I want to let a new group of chickens use the duck run. My concern is that maybe the duck poop will be a health hazard to the chickens? anybody know for sure?? I can't really get under there to clean it out. the ducks were outside in the day but would go under the barn at night

Thanks for any idea's

Ron, we keep all our birds together and have done for some years. no problems yet!

I had figured on avoiding a big part of chicken math by NOT having an incubator. I forget that we have some very skilled enablers on this thread.

And what do I do? Hatch out natural bators!

No, silkies don't hatch eggs for you. That's a myth. You're perfectly safe with them. More would be even better since they like to travel in packs. If they are sitting on eggs, that's just their way of keeping them contained so that nothing bad happens to them. Think of them as natural egg cartons. They'll hold you're eggs for three weeks in a perfectly fine condition. It's not their fault chicks pop out. But the chicks just help collect more eggs for you when they are grown. Soon you will have a soft sea of silkies to wade through.

I love silkies. They are just so cuddly! No matter how much they really don't like it when I pick them up. I'd make a huge coop (room for lots more) for them if I thought I could get away with it past my DH. He really doesn't care a whole lot for them. Now he'll sit and pet the ameracaunas as they snuggle on him. The little cockerel is His.

I just saw on the noon news that they have a big fire in the Chenowith Rim. Well imagine that. It burns every year. The news report caused me to remember and tell DW about some of the times I helped fight that fire.

And then I figured out what is wrong with me. See I was at a spot where the fire flared and to save us and our fire truck we were bombed with a load of that red stuff. Yes you know the stuff. OK are ready for it it's RETARDANT ! ! ! ! And now it's out ya all know whats wong wiff mee ! ! !

Anyone have some spare pullets that can be outside?
My friends in Yakutat Alaska would love to get some pullets for a subsistence flock in the village.
I have donated the few pullets I have and offered to fly them there.
If anyone is willing to donate a few pullets we could meet up either a day or 2 before I fly or fly day at seatac airport?
Anything from mixed mutts to pures are good! Just need to be female and either going to lay or currently laying... (no old biddies please as they need the eggs to eat or hatch to increase the flock)
They currently have 1 rooster and 1 hen.
I have some but how to get them to you ?
Are ya sticking to pea combed breeds ? (For the frost bite factor)

I still feel yucky, but at least the sun just now came out at 5............................

Your lucky the sun came out at 5:00. it is 6:20 here and it has been pouring down rain for over three hours. My DD was suppose to have a BBQ tonight then show a couple of movies on the side of the barn. there was suppose to be about 25 people show up. she had to cancel. Poor kid
