Whoo hoo, thanks Hinotori! I'm so glad that chicken population explosion is just the stuff of legend. No, silkies don't hatch eggs for you. That's a myth. You're perfectly safe with them. More would be even better since they like to travel in packs. If they are sitting on eggs, that's just their way of keeping them contained so that nothing bad happens to them. Think of them as natural egg cartons. They'll hold you're eggs for three weeks in a perfectly fine condition. It's not their fault chicks pop out. But the chicks just help collect more eggs for you when they are grown. Soon you will have a soft sea of silkies to wade through.
I love silkies. They are just so cuddly! No matter how much they really don't like it when I pick them up. I'd make a huge coop (room for lots more) for them if I thought I could get away with it past my DH. He really doesn't care a whole lot for them. Now he'll sit and pet the ameracaunas as they snuggle on him. The little cockerel is His.

That's interesting about your Ams, I raised and handled mine from chicks and they are skittish and aloof. My Silkie boy, who got me hooked on the breed, is a total sweetheart on the other hand.
