and today I did the hardest thing of my old life! I had my 16 yr. old GSD Kala put to sleep. she had arthritis so bad she had trouble getting up and down and walking. and her side vision was almost completely gone. I could write a book on what a great dog she was and all the fun we had. but I know some of you have lost Great dogs too in the last couple of years, and you know what I'm talking about and the hurt I'm feeling right now

. I know time will heal things. even though my dog was a big part of our family especially to me , I know she was just a dog and Not Human!

I know several of you have lost parents recently and Dave lost a very young daughter ! I don't know how you guys can go on with that kind of hurt!
I admire you people!

I want to thank Kim !!! she went with me to the vet and even helped me bury Kala what a Sweetheart she is

Ron, no she wasn't just a dog, she was your dog, and your companion, much more than just a dog.
I'm so sorry you lost her, but better that she didn't suffer any longer. And we too know how you feel, we lost our girl 3 months ago. The new puppy is good, but she isn't the "old girl".

I feel for you. . .

I know it hurts. It does get better slowly. We get just as attached to them as we do other family members.

Ron, I know that the day didn't end very well, but I want to let everyone know how great a guy you are!

He came over to help me finish up my silkie pen. He was a BIG help! And you can cut a pretty straight line Ron! Thanks Ron!

Then Kala got out of the car and it was pretty apparent that she was not doing well. So Ron made a really hard decision.
He is too good a friend to let him go by himself. It was hard on me and it wasn't even my dog!!

I will miss seeing her when I go over to his place to visit.

So a good and bad day today.

Oh, and she was a family member, not just a dog.

Ron I am so sad to hear that you had to make that decision. Just know that it was the right and loving thing to do.

NO TIME DOES NOT heal all ! Just helps make so it doesn't hurt quite so bad.

Kala was not "just a dog" She was your beloved friend and family member.

Anyone know if it's a good idea to put cut grass into their run as the bedding?

Also, I have a ton of extra wild bird seed I was feeding to wild birds 2 years back in a different house. Can I give them some of that as a treat sometimes to get rid of it?

Grass can mold. If you use it, apply it thin. I have a garbage can I toss grass into. Another garbage can I toss leaves into. Then I mix them together in the compost bin. The grass garbage can molds.

Sprout the bird seed and feed the sprouts to the chickens. I just bought a bag of bird seed with the sole purpose of sprouting it for treat food.

This is the second person I know locally who has been accused of a murder.

It's creepy when someone you would never expect does something like that. The eye surgeon who did my eye surgery is serving a 20-year sentence for a murder-for-hire plot against the co-owner of their practice. It is very strange to think that he touched my eyes. He was a great surgeon. Too bad he snapped. It seemed like he had an ideal life.
