I'm sure it would be okay, unless they're terrified by crazy chicken people.

Nope, I'm raising them into tiny crazy chicken people...should be alright then!

Beautiful pictures Dawn!

Vera, I hope it cools down for you.

Well, I survived day one of Cub Camp. Three more to go. I can hardly move. Up, down, squat to get at the boys' level, etc. Holding wood while they hammer. One child managed to hit my thumb pretty hard. Owie! I feel like I worked out in a gym for a few too many hours. If I sit down (like now), I can hardly move when I get back up. Must be a sign of old age.

The four of us station volunteers got through the building of close to 200 lion banks and 200 jeep derby cars. Tomorrow is painting day. Thank goodness... we can give them free rain to exercise their creativity and all we have to do is guide them. I'm grateful they split the Webelos off to another team of volunteers.... I doubt we could have gotten through projects for 310 boys.
take a simple pocket comb and hold the nail with that. Then you won't get your nail nailed by a hammer. Just a thought, might help! Couldn't hoit!

Umm, I don't suppose I should tell you there's a matching chicken coin purse for that, then.

But it would be a perfect size for William!

Aw, now you've gone and done it! I'm gonna have to get him one so he can be just like mommy. That's such a great idea! I don't often think of getting the kids chicken stuff ;)

Who is ready for some cute pictures?!?!?

This was the first chick to hatch!

I love all the great colors I got.

Newly hatched chick behind her.

These are the ones that Momma Kristine hatched.

There is Momma Kristine in the back ground.

These ones are Momma Fancy's chicks.

There is only one more egg under Fancy that is trying to finnish hatching.

I am so excited to have different colored chicks as all the ones I hatched before from my old rooster and my mixed hens were all the same, no matter what hen they came from. Hope you guys like the pictures.

Cute!!!! Are those chicks from the eggs you got from me?

All right then. Question.

My cockerel (I thought he was fourteen weeks old, but he's actually 17 weeks) was trying to mount one of the hens yesterday. He just started crowing ( nice, deep throaty short crow). I'm wondering, how long it will be before the hens will make fertile eggs. How long does it take for young cockerels to actually get the hang of it. Should he be older? The hens are just over a year old so should be ok for breeding.

How long should I wait (I want baby chicks!)

Wait a few days if you just saw him mounting the girls for the first time. Then crack open an egg, or a few, and look for the blastocyst on the yolk. If it has any type of ring shape to it, it's fertile and you are good to go! Just keep checking them until you see it. Should look like this:

Fertile egg:

Unfertile egg:

HTH!!!

and today I did the hardest thing of my old life! I had my 16 yr. old GSD Kala put to sleep. she had arthritis so bad she had trouble getting up and down and walking. and her side vision was almost completely gone. I could write a book on what a great dog she was and all the fun we had. but I know some of you have lost Great dogs too in the last couple of years, and you know what I'm talking about and the hurt I'm feeling right now
. I know time will heal things. even though my dog was a big part of our family especially to me , I know she was just a dog and Not Human!

I know several of you have lost parents recently and Dave lost a very young daughter ! I don't know how you guys can go on with that kind of hurt!
I admire you people!

I want to thank Kim !!! she went with me to the vet and even helped me bury Kala what a Sweetheart she is
