TC, did you get my PM?

No rush on replying, just that I've had PMs go missing on here before.

Quote: I would use shaving for new chicks. I am using the chips in the run. Shavings are easier to clean out I would think.

I find "coffee chaff" for free on the internet. This is what I use. It's lighter, so tends to fly around more. But it's FREE! Just look on Craigslist - or go talk to local coffee roaster around you.

It makes the coop smell like coffee too =) And my girls have never tried to eat it (although they eat sawdust like it's candy!)

Cute!!!! Are those chicks from the eggs you got from me?

Yes they are the eggs from you! You sold me 15 and only one was not fertle, so I have 14 lil fluff balls. The momas have been sharing the babies.
I am so excited to have different colored chicks as all the ones I hatched before from my old rooster and my mixed hens were all the same, no matter what hen they came from. Hope you guys like the pictures.

THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the redheaded ones!!

Thank you, I assume those are the BLRW!

Yes, the chipmunk striped ones are the BLRW. I'll be curious to see how your olive eggers grow out! I can see one in the photos that is dark with a white spot on its head. That one will be cuckoo/barred but it may be a blue cuckoo.

random post but i have come across a guy who wants to make a computer game called My Backyard Chickens.... part of me sees this as a way to also learn about breeding birds in real live.

check out his Kickstart page. it is an interesting concept....and if there can be cat and dog sim games.... why not a chicken one that incorporates the genetics of actual chicken breeds?

It looks like the Meat Shop in Tacoma is closing. I need somewhere to get a couple of geese butchered in the next couple of months. Anybody know who processes waterfowl? My husband will do chickens and turkeys but says no geese ever again. Or I could sell them- anybody want a couple of half-grown sebastopol cross goslings??

FYI- in case anyone is interested. I saw the misters

take a simple pocket comb and hold the nail with that. Then you won't get your nail nailed by a hammer. Just a thought, might help! Couldn't hoit!
Oh man, where was this awesome advice on Tuesday?!!! I'm going to designate a pocket comb in the tool bag for that purpose. Thanks!

No injuries today... whew! Thank goodness. Yesterday they had the boys using hot glue guns (as young as 2nd grade). I walked many a boy to the camp nurse.

ETA: I guess I'm too tired to spell the simplest of words.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. He had a clinic here in the Tri-Cities!! I ended up buying the package where you can go have the sx repeated as many times as necessary/possible. I wonder if that still holds true now that the business changed names.

I would assume they would honor it. The business is still owned by one of the two founding doctors. The business name really hasn't changed - other than dropping the incarcerated doctor's name from it. From what I understand, the business just transferred over to the other doctor. They worked as partners, and the current doctor was the one who did my follow-up appointments anyway. He now has practices all over - he even has billboards for his practice in Victoria B.C.

I still drink my coffee or tea from the coffee cup they gave me when I had my surgery. It's kinda' weird to see both names on it. I keep telling DH I should auction it on ebay.

I feel you!!! I have been busting my rear to get my silkie pen done and I feel it in every part of my body! And I am not quite done! Gotta do some digging and leveling for the pavers, and then put the footing in the run. I found arbor chips! From local arborists that is sold down at the new feed store on Avondale in Redmond. Like $12 a yard! Awsome stuff! I mat have to get some to top off my other run too!

I hear ya! I feel like I've been on a string of work overload. First, move my mom to Oregon & sell her place. Rip out the carpets in our house because I had a severe allergy problem - basically tear everything out of of bookshelves, furniture, etc (no time to get it all put back yet). Finish the coop, level the pavers, dig out the ground for concrete, build the run. Camping for a week at Lake Chelan (yes, a vacation, but when you own a boat, camping is a LOT of work) and now Cub Camp. ALL of this started about May 15 (when my mom made a quick decision to move). My poor almost 44-year-old body is feeling like I'm way too old for this. Too much in too short of time.

This next week, after Cub Camp, I'm hoping to recover the house. My DD's remote to her bedroom light got packed, and she hasn't had an overhead light since the carpet tear-out. Plus, we're missing a lot of things we used on a regular basis.

Who here sells hatching eggs for Blue Laced Red Wyandottes? Also, who sells chicks/eggs of light colored (white, blue, gray, etc) easter egger descent? I want to know where I'm getting hatching eggs next spring! I won't be hatching our "mutt" eggs as I know I still want pure-ish bred chickens. I like their look better in my backyard ;)

I'd like to know, too. I'm still not totally convinced my remaining 3 chickens will be Silkies. I feel like I need to research Silkies a lot more before jumping into unknown territory. I think it *might* be fun (and educational) for the kids to show - like at the Puyallup Fair, or something, but I don't know anything about showing animals.

I know nothing about 4H... but plan to research that as well. Any info/advice on 4H would be appreciated.

If we don't get Silkies, I'm thinking Bantams. I love my adorable Light Brahma - but her size at such a young age is making me nervous. What am I going to do if she outgrows the beautiful coop/run we just built?!!
