Our coop is 8'x8' with open windows in each side, along with a full sized door that is open, and the door for the girls. This coop is attached to a enclosed run that is 8' x 14". There is a large pellet feeder inside and a 5 gallon waterer outside.

We have 21 chickens. 10 of which are not old enough to lay yet, and 2 of those are roos.

I have a question ....

Can I leave them within these confines for 2.5 days, when they are used to being let out everyday, all day ?

or....

Would it be better for me to leave their run door open so they can get in and out, leaving them open for a visit from the coyote that frequents here ?

Thoughts ?

Do you have any neighbor kids that want to make $10?

Have any of you in Western Washington lost chicks to a snake before? Do I just have internet paranoia? There are lots of post about it, but I see mainly from the south, right?

I had the opposite happen. My chickens caught and killed a garter snake! I think they thought it was a giant mealworm.

Helps that we don't have anything venomous around here, and I don't think our garter or ribbon snakes could take on anything except tiny fluffy chicks. At least, not based on anything we've seen in our yard.

Yay!! I finally got the Denagard and can help my girls kick this weird "cold" they have! Here's to cooped up girls for the next 5 days, wish them luck!

Just for my own peace of mind...has anyone else ever had their birds come down with something like this that didn't go away on its' own? What they have is simply a cold, or so it seems. They sneeze, honk occasionally like a cough maybe?? and there's a teensy bit of nasal discharge. No weird poops. No decline in eating or drinking, they behave just fine and spunky as usual. But they've had this for over 4-5 weeks and it's not going away or getting worse. Does it even sound like something serious?

Hey stranger (than me) how the heck has ya been? Myself I would leave em in that for 2.5 days. They have an average 48 SF each. That is plenty for 2 days.
