I grew up with a hunter, too. Then I married one. I've seen a lot of gross stuff - I've just never actually done the deed myself. I was usually the kid in the corner crying "Mom, don't let him do that!". I've seen bear, deer, elk and even a moose hanging in the garage. And, of course, rabbits, the occasional sheep (where the heck did he get that... my mom didn't even know). My step-dad even 3 bear taxidermy'd. Good grief! He had 1 full mount, 1 half mount and a bear skin rug. Considering he shot them with a bow and arrow, I guess I should have been impressed. I was more embarrassed than impressed! The last bear he shot was a with a longbow he made himself. When he died, his request was to have his bear skin rug as a coffin cover. He was was one strange dude.
I'm so glad DH is just a bird hunter. His largest game is turkey. We have a taxidermy'd Wood Duck hanging on our wall. When we went to Sea World, we were looking at a pond and youngest DS saw a wood duck and yelled loudly - "Mom, that looks just like the dead duck that's hanging in our family room." Oh boy... the stares and glares from people around me...
