Why do you think I'm crazy and own chickens? It's from being born and growing up there.

At least the Army Depot is pretty much done now. So no chemical worries anymore.

Roosters crow at all hours all day. It doesnt really have anything to do with sun up sun down, atleast not around here!
They crow all day at my house. I only have one with an annoying crow the rest I dont mind hearing.
I had a couple of roosters that would crow REALLLLLY LOUD at 2, 3 and 4 am.
My neighbors are super nice and never really complained but it did annoy them and we werent attached to those roosters so we took them to the sale.


Keeping them locked in the coop until 7ish in the morning will atleast muffle his crow.

Mine crows at thunder.

I tried stuffing my little bantam rooster in a small crate where he could barely stand up in and the bugger still crowed

What a great idea Rainwolf. I have 2 Roos, about 18 weeks old and neither one have started crowing yet...patiently waiting....

Does anyone caponize their Roos around here?

it sounds delish, but looks a very gorey. I read somewhere that a caponized Jersey Giant was close to 20 lbs, back in the day.

Maybe he tries to raise his head to crow, and gets scraped by the bars. Get him a little rooster helmet - hey if hens can have saddles why not something for the boys?

Hey guys! Just thought I'd check in with everyone.

I was supposed to go back to full-time July 30th (today) but whined & cried...and my boss was nice enough to let me stay at four days a week until the beginning of January....which is nice

I've been slowly reducing my flock size down, down, down. I still have a few, adult breeders for sale, if anyone is looking for any. I would prefer them to be local (it's too hot to ship) and could meet in Wenatchee August 4th. I have a pair of adult (large fowl) Golden Laced Cochins, 1 pair of bantam salmon faverolles, 1 pair of bantam Houdan and 1 pair of bantam Orloffs. All are very nice breeder-quality or better. I also have a gorgeous buff american geese pair, 1 lavender Muscovy drake and 3 giant African dewlaps for sale. I'm open to any/all offers. I'm more concerned with them going to a good, forever home than making money on them.

Audrey's 1st birthday is coming up! Man...time does fly....I already want another one but with the complications I had last time, DH says no--not worth the risk (I sort of agree)....so we're seriously considering surrogacy in a few years. Audrey has 3 and 1/4 teeth (two bottom, 1 and 1/4 uppers). She's talking (a lot) and not quite walking but starting to let go when she's standing....




Lastly, is Dave still around? Velvetfogg? I heard he did a coop for Teresa....I have had absolutely crap luck with people following through with building things...I went so far as sending some guy in Idaho $300 to start on a coop for me. He started flaking out on me and thank GOD I ended up with a refund...I thought for sure he'd take my money and run....but now I'm back to square one, again. I'd really like something like this:



Along with a coop like that, I'm looking for some Ameraucaunas to fill it up...and maybe a Marans hen or two...I seem to have an increasingly large market around me for eating eggs and an ever-growing grasshopper invasion. I am too scared to turn out any of my "rare" chickens and now that I mostly have bantams, even more worried--so I'd like some LF that will forage well, lay well and that are "rare enough" that I would still be able to sell hatching eggs from them, on occasion.

Anyway--other than that--not too much is happening...same crap, different day.

If anyone's interested in geese, adult chickens or that Muscovy drake--just PM me. This thread moves too fast for me to keep up with in my limited internet time. I have photos of all of them and can always take more.

Oh and does anyone do the vintage or antique thing? I have a 1950s Virtue Bros of Los Angeles chrome & formica dining set for sale...the chairs are numbered. Everything is in great shape.

I'd trade it for an apron (farmhouse) sink...or sell it.
