Quote: This house has been keeping me up at night for the past week now. Between the excitement of possibly getting it and then all the thoughts of decorating and where to place all of our stuff! LOL Thanks for the positive thoughts.
Farmin Momma - the house and acreage sound like a dream come true - I bet you could keep tons of roostering - roosters , and be punished.
That is very true, although I already have 3 roosters even though I am not supose to. My neighbors understand, either that or they think we are on the other side of the city limits but we are not. Oh I can't wait.

Just got back from picking up some Serama chicks from WA4-Hpoultrymom.

I put them in the separate cage next to the one with the older ones and the younger ones kept moving over there.

So I came back and saw only 2 chicks in the cage....Yep they are small enough to squeeze through the bars. Found them (all 3 black) in a pile on the floor between the 2 cages.

So I put them in with the older ones since it has a plastic bottom that goes up the sides quiet a ways up. So far so good.

I put the lamp in there and the older ones are trying to sun bath so they are all stretched out and the little ones keep climb on them or under them to sleep.

Well the cyote came back again this morning. My DH got to see one finaly. DH came and woke me up at 6am, said that I needed to hurry up and go check on the chickens and turkeys because the turkeys were making quite a lot of noise and one male was now on the roof and one male ontop of our fence. So I grabed one of the dogs and ran out there, DH was squating out in the yard facing our creek with our DS's BB gun! Every one was safe as I had locked the chickens in the coop last night untill about 7:30 this morning. The only ones I was worried about were the turkeys sense they don't sleep in a coop just out in the yard, and one of the hens is on eggs just in the tree line. But all was fine!
I have not been on much to tell you guys, but we are looking at buying another home and moving. We have already found one that we are putting an offer on. The address is in Monroe. The place is around High Bridge (if any one knows were that is). It is great, 10 acres, 6 bedrooms, ready for horses and other animals, huge chicken coop!!!!!! Shop and also a garage for DH to be entertained while I play in the 9 stall barn or the HUGE covered areana. This place is amazing, and best of all..... if a fricking cyote shows up out there, we will be having cyote for dinner! I can't wait to live somewhere that I can shoot the things that threaten to take my animals.
So wish us luck, got my fingers crossed for us!
Sounds like a great house. You'll be closer to me.

It is a bit a running joke on this thread. Though I am not sure anyone else quite understands the joke but me. On the other hand the puppies are often very naughty, and I get irritated with them. I must say that I would much rather have older dogs. Puppies maybe very cute, but they are completely uncivilized. Also Yorkies are very difficult to house train. So as sweet as they can be, I still have moments of thinking of them as nasty little dogs.

Ahhh yes, now it all makes since!! Hahahaha. Thanks for fillin me in!

Sorry yer Rooster was so mean. I don't remember who may have Brahma. I do know that Cloverleaf Farm Has AWESOME Fav's both B and LF. Here is Fudge that I got from Cloverleaf (Jeanine).

Wow! He is very handsome!

I hate keeping my birds penned up. I like my animals to have freedom. Oh, well, until we do something about that coyote, it will just have to be that way!

On a positive note, my DH left the window open last night - on the side of the house facing the pen. I woke up early because it sounded like the roosters were on my patio! I went outside to watch them for a few minutes, and the peachick came out of the bushes! woohoo! now if I could only catch the bugger. Even with clipped wings, the little guy can run! And the bushes are a thicket. I'll get him back in the pen someday! At least I know he's safe.

That's great news about finding the peachick! Yay!!! Congrats! Now hopefully, you'll be lucky enough to catch the little stinker!

I can tell you why they're the nasty little pups!

I'd be thrilled to tell you! There are still scars...

The house sounds like a dream!! Fingers crossed!! I think it's great to get more then you may need from the get go. My DH has *finally* figured this out, and surprised the heck outta me by deciding to build a pole barn instead of a chicken coop. He knows if he starts out purchasing or building the size to suit what we have now, he will just be rebuilding or buying something bigger later (I tend to add to our critter #'s fairly easily....cough cough...we have 2 goats coming in Sept!!!)
Anyway, good luck on the house!!

I've got a question for those of you who are within city limits about building regulations. I've been reading through my city's ordinances, and while they are written to keep coops out of the front yard, I should be able to build one next to my front porch, since the front of the porch is the front wall of the house (it's integrated under the roof, and we went through this when we had our garage built). Although it's closer to the house than I wanted, I've got a decent sized spot to build a 4X4 coop. But what exactly do pens fall under in ordinances? Are they accessory structures? I was going to have the coop and pen under one shingled roof (as an all-in-one), but I wonder if I should put less construction into the pen. I'd like the pen to come forward past the imaginary front wall line. My city's ordinances don't say anything about poultry pens other than including them in the rule of 25 feet from property lines. But they don't give a decent definition of an accessory structure.

I've only had time late in the day to call my permitting office, and their hours are pretty darn short. I'll try again tomorrow, but I thought maybe someone here had dealt with this before.

Thought I would share some photos of my Fav pair Romeo and Juliette. 18 weeks

Very happy chickens dust bathing. This is their spot. The one place the other girls don't bug them.

I think I have decided to eventually only have EE's and Favs. I think they are my favorite breeds out of all the ones I have had. Sussex are coming in a close third though. Lol!

Not much going on here. My mom is in town but still at my sister's house; she'll come here Sat-Tues. They all came over this afternoon for a visit though; it's loud and fun with 8 kids and 2 moms! LOL I cleaned out and organized all my kids toys in their room and the playroom; threw away a TON of trash and toys and feel much better about the 3 hours I spent doing it! My mom met my chickens for the first time today; she's still confused why I would ever want them ;) I hope someone lays an egg during her visit, that would be awesome!

Ok so now one of the older serama's is going after his/her litter mates and the smaller serama's are going after there's and the poor silkies are trying to figure out what is happening.

For that matter I am trying to figure out what is happening. I may have to put some one in time out before I go to bed or turn off the lamp for the small ones and just put a heater out there.
