SILKIE PEOPLE!

I just brought home 3 little silkies. I realized I didnt have any chick starter, so I sent my husband to the nearest place and all they had was scratch and peck starter. Most of the pieces seem REALLY big for chicks... Is this going to be ok for them or do I need to go get them regular crumble starter?

If nothing else put the peck starter or w/e and put them in a blender or coffee grinder. Make em smaller! SInce the feed is organic in nature shouldnt hurt anything

So because RonB sent me to an AWSOME vet, I did not have to put Barricade down today!!!! It does not mean that it wont happen, but he GAVE me the meds to try and see if it helps him. So here is hopeing.

This is almost blasphemous coming from my mouth: I'm so happy the weather is cooling down!!!!!! I've finally acclimated to the western WA weather and this 90+ heat is just too much! I can't believe it. I'm from CA and GA and used to LOVE the 90+ heat...heck, I was pregnant with and birthed my first son in July in GA; the day he was born it was 111 outside and I didn't mind a bit. But now, eesh. Can't imagine going back to that. I just hope that the decreased temps will help my birds all start laying. I think the delay from first egg to getting somewhat normal production is because of the heat.

Our first egg was August 12th and I've only gotten 7 eggs in 6 days. I think 3 girls are laying now. Oh well, I'm SOOO looking forward to our first green egg too!

Dunno where its going but 2 1 gallon waterers were almost empty this evening. Anyone having lots of evaporation, or are my birds avian sponges?

I also find it odd. Are they traditional waterers? Just typical fount waterers with bottom troughs for drinking?

Those of you waiting till spring to get yours here is something to think about................
If you can get ready in the next four months then by the time it's warming up for prime egg laying time I believe in the long run you'll get more eggs.
Get them April May by the time they start laying you going into winter and some times they will not get that great egg laying start.
I've got mine in spring and fall and probably stick with fall.

Interesting. I'm guessing we'd have to keep them indoors through the winter then?

Well I have the poultry nipples and I want to mak like a watering bar with the nipples on it. Just have to figure out how to get a hose to fit a 55gal water barrel(mounted on top run) and have it connect to the bar.
