Wow. Some get their feathers ruffled really easily around here. He doesn't care if it's a mutt or pure bred either. He like all kinds of chickens.

I am pretty sure this is how you and I got off to a bad start, me saying I wanted to make rain chickens! I guess you are all on board now?
To set the record straight. Dana I think and hope that you know me well enough to know that I was NOT berating you or your birds. After all I probably have one of the widest selections of mutts around starting with my self. As some of you know I do also have some SQ birds.
When I first joined this thread it was a pretty common practice to ease in, watch, listen (read) and get to know others before lashing out at someone for voicing their opinion which had just been requested. Sharing information is what helps us all grow and learn. I will continue to share my opinion (with in the rules) especially when requested. If you can't handle that or don't like it..... build a bridge and get over it!!!!

So you're ok with people buying hatchery birds now? Awesome, you're such an ambassador. Edited to add punctuation.

Yesterday I almost finished another playhouse. This one is for my cochins in the garden.

My plan was to figure out cheap coops, that I can make by myself. DH needs to stop making coops and start on solar doors. I also am providing two of my Aunties with coops and 2-3 EE's each. It drives me nuts that I can't remove the shutters and doors to paint. My mantra yesterday was: A thing of beauty is never perfect!

After this pic, we added a nestbox to be checked thru the back window, perches, and hardwire cloth over the windows. This house was perfectly warped to provide extra ventilation there the roof meets the walls. DH is always looking at the coops section of BYC, so I might surprise him with an article.

I didn't paint the inside, because I have had a parrot and many Budgies, and know how sensitive they are to chemicals. People seem to think chickens are so much tougher, but I want to be safe. I LOVE my little girls!

Quote: Ok, so I am going to ask for clarification before I get my feathers ruffled her too.

CC, I have and have had in the past many hatchery chickens. Actually until this spring when I decided to get Favs and help get the breed off the "rare" list, ALL mine were from the feed store. CR has already stated that he has "mutts" and I am sure hatchery birds. Why did you state it that he's ok with it "now", when clearly he has always been ok with it?
And what am I on board with exactly?

I think where we got off to a bad start is when I saw a friend of mine get lashed out at for really no reason, because the time wasn't taken to get to know them on the thread before making judgments and then throwing out harsh words. I think everyone should feel free to voice opinions about chickens and raising them and we all can decide to ignore the opinions and advice or agree to disagree.
I am just trying to get some clarity. And not take offense IF no offense was meant. But sometimes your posts can come across a little harsh and blunt. So I, and a few others might take them wrong.
No offense meant here either, I am just trying to get a read on where you are coming from so I don't get my panties all in a wad and stick my foot in my mouth.

Perhaps you thought it was a tad cooler in the Seattle area today than one might hope to experience in August.

Well, count yourself lucky.

The following report comes from The Spokesman-Review in Spokane:

The National Weather Service this afternoon has issued a freeze warning for sheltered valleys in Northeast Washington overnight.

Temperatures could fall to as low as 29 degrees between 3 and 7 a.m., forecasters said.

Cities identified in the warning include Chewelah, Colville, Deer Park, Newport, Kettle Falls, Republic, Inchelium and Wauconda.

Cool air has moved over the Inland Northwest in the wake of a dry cold front overnight.

Spokane could see a low of 43 tonight.

Temperatures will rebound starting on Saturday with highs in the lower 80s going to about 90 on Sunday under sunny skies as fair weather continues into early next week.

Thunderstorms may arrive by Tuesday.

I am SO glad that the heat wave is over and I have been enjoying the cooler-than-normal temps lately. I know that I might be in a minority but I have lived in some very hot places and love cooler temps. Lived in Yuma, AZ for eight years and hated century mark temps. Moved here from South Carolina, Christmas 1993, and LOVED having four seasons, NO hurricane's (the last year I lived in S.C. had to bug out three times--- DON'T miss that!!). For me, the Pacific Northwest is just heaven!!

Been a 'lurker' on this thread, for a little bit, and thought I would post and say 'hi'. I have eleven birds, right now; four Silkies & seven Serama. I am getting two more Silkies, from Karen (Catdance Silkies) in the fall Just love these guys!!

My former husband has stated that he is worried about me that I have having some weird form of a mid-life crisis as I have been showing dogs for 33 years and he does not understand this 'chicken thing'. I love the sounds they make, I get a charge out of watching one bird, get a juicy bug and then the chase begins!! I see their different personalities, just like my dogs. It just boils down to I enjoy them. I might even be showing a few next Spring. Kind of a natural progression when you have shown dogs for most of your life.

Sheila :)
