Okay, we're ready! We've settled on breeding stock (pics on our coop page), and, by early next year, we'll have all breeds laying.

100% English Orpingtons (b/b/s LF and chocolate bantam) -- Olandsk Dwarfs -- Icelandics (second generation from two lines directly imported)

We're starting waiting lists for hatching eggs and chicks!

Any ideas on how best to market? Anyone selling hatching eggs and chicks under a small business with advice?
OH my gosh how old were your EO when you weeded them out? I was told to wait till they are at least 5 months or older, didnt know you had some that old.
How did you go about doing it. I just sent a few EO rooster to the auction and also a few hens too just need more room for the really good looking ones I have here.

LOL I was kinda thinking the same thing.... Freeze dried I could do LOL Heeheee

I'd still use tweezers....they just gross me out !

Quote: Oh duh, the quail section! Thank you very much, I am not quite sure why that did not come to mind. I will try and post there too.
Quote: I completely agree. When my friend has a day off I am going to go over there and talk to DF's neighbor and see what I can come up with.
this don't pass the "smell test".
under what authority was the dog put down. who did it?
I would not rely on an "eye" witness, they are notorious for getting things wrong.
all of the chickens and all of the quail were killed? by one dog? something ain't right here.
Again I agree, DF's boyfriend fell for all of the crap before talking to me or my DF and he is the one who put the dog down. My SIL and I were talking just now and we came up with the same idea that even if the dog had gone after the chickens it would only be one or two of them, not 5 chickens and 10 quail. Also with the fact that the dog had no blood on her at all! I will definatly be talking to the neighbor. I will let you guys know what I find out.

But like I said if any one has any laying hens they would be willing to sell me to help her just PM me. Thanks everyone!

My question is, why does "mutt" have to be taken as a derogatory word? It's not. Nobody questions what that word means. A "mutt" is a crossbreed. If you start talking about "this breed x that breed" then people start questioning if it's something that's being done on purpose, for a certain reason....where if it's a "mutt" it's just a crossbred animal....JMO...I don't know what everyone is getting so uppity about over a single word...sigh...
I am a mutt, half Italian & half Scottish....four kids in the family, I am blond & green eyed, sis is brown & green eyed, both brothers are brown/brown.
Makes for interesting families here in the "Melting Pot"
Dad is Blond/blue, Mom is brown/brown.
Yup, we are Mutts !

Thank you!! I bred the Mal, Kes, and the Pom, Kaitlyn, was my original girl, in the Breed. She will be seven, in November and is the Alpha girl of my pack. It is so funny seeing this little five pound dog dominate dogs that are twice her size!

The photo below shows my pack next to my motorhome and the last photo is the Pom puppy, of my breeding, winning a Best In Show at 11 months. Words can't express how thrilled I was at that. Click on each to see the full shot.

Sheila :)

OMG they are so CUTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look like little stuffed animals !!!!!!!!!!!

We actually don't live on the west side...we're in Okanogan (North/Central Washington)...sagebrush, wildfires, etc. :)

No, no one does rattlesnake proofing here. I'm not sure how we'd do that with hundreds of acres? LOL We do keep the grass/weeds mowed down. We don't have any piles of wood or rock piles around. We keep everything picked up and cared for. I think he might have got bit up on the county road or back behind our property which isn't ours. We mow a swath of about 16' wide behind our house (as a fire break). Eventually, we'd like to purchase that property so we can take care of it because it's neglected now.

The vet cut a bunch of stuff off his head and packed the hole with antibiotic salve. She said to keep an eye on it. He's got 1,000mg of antibiotics (daily). She said if he gets worse or swells again really bad to bring him back. He's already acting like he's feeling better. I had to make him stay on the porch when I just went out & fed/watered all of the animals. :)
Somewhere recently I read where you can buy Rattlesnake anti-venom for dogs, for just this purpose.
Keep it in the fridge (I think) and give the dog a shot ASAP when you know they have been bitten & greatly reduces the necrotic tissue, swelling & pain.
I hear it has a short shelf life though...a year I think.
I will see if I can find the web site again.
DH's Dad in NorCal just lost a medium sized dog to a rattlesnake...Cash is bigger so must have handled the venom better.
Hope he recovers !

He is such an awesome dog !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you really want to perpetuate mean genes?
Another very good point !
There is sooooooooooooo many nice cockerels to be adopted !
Why have a meanie ?
I myself must have 10-15 beautiful NICE cockerels FREE.
The Jersey Giants go 15 pounds at maturity and are sooooo gentle...as are my Cuckoo Marans.
