Thanks for the reply. I've read though that I need to get a new, new baby. Like under 3 days. Has anyone had a different experience?
The broody will have to set on some eggs for a few weeks before she will accept a baby.
They are pretty smart that way, she may kill any babies she will know are not hers, be careful.

Since y'all liked the last set...today we hiked the short half mile Beauty Ridge trail; much more manageable with the littlest 2 kidlets! Then we went to the beach! William is having some fun but has more reached the state of perpetual tantrum in until we get home I think :-/

I used to live not far from there, a few miles.
It is spectacular country, but the winters can be very, very hard !

Once again, you have to do what works for you. As others have said, it depends on what you want from your flock.
By the way, I find that reptile and bird husbandry are very similar. I used to have green iguanas, and had friends with snakes, water dragons, chameleons, geckos, uromastyx, etc.

Our non existent Spring was pretty non existent. 2 weeks of summer and we had frost last Friday. Pretty depressing.
I don't have chickens at all. I do have a buff Orpington duck in my gang of webbies. Does that count?

So far as I can tell, you are the only BYcer that has been able to resist chicken math ! How do you do it ?????????????

:frow   Hello! Im here two days in a row! lol The world must be ending, as I have a free moment without the baby! lol

Im over tired and starting to get goofy. Isnt sleep deprivation just grand?

Hi CR!

Hey Cheryl!! The baby is adorable! CL did a very good job on keeping me "baby updated"!! Get some rest girlfriend!

I have started a project. I will try and create my own line of Hambars. I have the NH Roo - and 8 to 12 BR Hens. I will start the breeding process this spring.

NH as in New Hampshire? Like the reds? That was my all time favorite hen, a new hampshire red. That will be an interesting project, NH and BR. Both great breeds. What are you hoping to get from the cross, as I know nothing of Hambars... lol Now youve peeked my interest!

Good luck Renee! I'm laying here in the hotel waiting for the pain meds to kick in so I can help finish packing up to come home! So glad to get home to my girls and my kitty <3 we had a great vacation though

What did you do to yourself? I'm glad you had a good time. Have a safe trip.

Yep. I was amazed. Didn't think it could be that easy! First night out and I have already caught the one. Let's see if it's friend comes back tonight...
There is a way to do this with a 5 gallon bucket and a section of PVC pipe over the top, the rats crawl up the pipe to get in the bucket but the pipe can spin, so they are thus dumped in.
RainWolf has made such a trap & it works well.
Look on line to see plans, it is easy to build.
Maybe RW can post pics ?
