I have an LG with fan and turner. Also have the silkiebator who may be willing to hire out but I would have to consult her first. She is broody now. Of course she is because she laid 5 eggs.Does anyone have a small incubator they would lend or rent me?
I just helped my friend and neighbor with doing the same thing with her house. She treated all the pets but then the fleas were all over the house.. I t was aweful. She has 5 little ones all under age 8 and is expecting again so she was out of her mind with the dang fleas biting the kids. The fleas werent on the dogs any more just in the house... Mostly upstairs. We treated the house a couple times and then I remembered (DUH ME) that the fleas were likely in the grass outside and coming in on all the little feet. So we treated the grass area and made sure the dogs are getting once a month treatment. Thank heavens the fleas have gone, moved on, hit the road.. I wish you luck. Its not fun and surely not fun to come home to after vacation
I got hit with the fleas a couple weeks ago. Seemed to just show up. Doesn't help that two of my cats are inside/outside.
I treated all the cats. Then, like you, they were all over the house. I have all hard floors, just a few throw rugs. So they got treated with the Raid ant/spider spray and Garden Sevin. (What I had on hand) Still everywhere. Thankfully they don't bite me or I don't react to them. I'm taking a few days off work soon and am going to retreat the cats and bomb the house.
Russ- It's like Wild Kingdom around here lately.

Thanks Russ. Yeah like you said I don't think it was anything we did wrong, they just showed up and invaded! What a mess. And of course they don't bite me or the kids, just Isaac. He's terribly ticked off and while he knows not to blame the cat, I feel like he's blaming me because I didn't keep up on the Advantage. So now I'm in a lot of pain and still have to be up and vacuuming the house all the time. We actually resorted to bombing the downstairs last night even though we were in the house because we were able to seal it off. We will do the upstairs today or tomorrow. I'm out of flea powder and spray though, so we need to get to Auburn Coastal Farm Supply and buy some DE. I'm going to put it under every bed and dresser and piece of furniture we own, then stick to vacuuming the visible carpets for a few more weeks. Blarg!
Quote: Beautiful Python! My son has a Ball Python(that's the largest I was willing to keep) and a Bearded Dragon. They are great!
Guess what?! In less than 3 weeks of my chickens barely starting to lay eggs, we've gone from 0 to 7 eggs a day!!! Yup, 7 eggs today!
Quote: X2!
That's pretty dang AWSOME!!!OMG, great news! My wonderful boyfriend, at whose house our chickens reside (we can't live together because I'm too much of a clean freak for all his indoor pets!), has forbidden me from even TALKING about getting more chickens in his presence for the past couple of months now. We need a bigger coop, and he wanted to make sure the two we recently added would fit in before getting more, and it was just too much pressure for him as he has a lot more on his plate than just chickens. HOWEVER...
Our anniversary is coming up and he's planning a camping trip up to Lake Snoqualmie for us to celebrate it (my first time backpacking!). Well, not only am I looking forward to the trip, but he suggested one of the things we can do to pass the time up there is DESIGN THE NEW COOP!!!

We're going to be using free pallets from where my friend works to build it. He wants to design an automatic coop door on a timer. Even though our chickens prefer roosting in their giant pine tree, we obviously need a coop for rare situations like freezing temps, injured birds, etc., and the rats (which are everywhere in Seattle) have been getting into the feed at night, what with the door always left open so the chickens can get to the feed as soon as dawn breaks and they come down from the tree.We are also hoping to get them to start laying in nest boxes in the coop so that rats don't get to our eggs before we do.![]()
I AM SO RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED!!! ALREADY THINKING ABOUT WHERE TO GET THREE MORE HENS!!!
(Just wish I could have more than eight hens and no roosters in Seattle, but I'll take what I can get!)![]()
Something Kinda cool happened today..... I was gone most of the day and late tonite. Spending time with my Mom and my Daughter .. we went shopping and to dinner. Kinda a last girls time before my daughter starts high school on Wednesday my mom was having a tough day because of some family stuff so we made a day of it. Well I got home at like 9:30 to nite way past normal chicken chore time. I find out My Husband... went out and fed ALL my chickens even my 39 little babies. He even did all the little extras I do. Like give them treats, add ACV to water and even dished up everyone the fermented feeds that I make for the different groups.. I was soooooooooooooo shocked.See when I got the original 13 chickens a couple years ago. I did so under great protest from my hubby and daughter![]()
I had wanted chickens for a long time, But Hubby thought all chickens meant was MORE work for him. So on our 13 year anniversary I went out and got 13 little chicks.. Put them in our bathtub and tied a big red bow on the tub door with a sign that said "Happy Anniversary to Me"
I knew Id get away with it because it was our Anniversary..... But I did have to promise him that he would never have to take care of them or do any work....Ive kept that promise for the most part.
So to nite when he did the night time ritual I was shocked. That's when he told me. That Since I got the birds I seem happier. I smile more, I giggle more, and I don't get mad at him as quick as I used to!!!! LOL. Plus he pointed out that I'm spending more time out in the barn with the other critters that everyone seems healthier. I grew up on this same farm that we live on now. Back then I worked with my Dad and my Brother to take care of all the animals and make the farm work. The 3 of us spent a lot of time doing chores and talking "stuff". Both my brother and my father have passed and I kinda just left the farm work to my hubby and others.. seemed easier that way.
Also hubby said that he figures as long as Im happy with the chickens I wont get goats LOL which is of course why he is helping me build new coops and fenced areas this fall. More chickens in exchange for no goats....LOL
I do feel more Zen when I'm watching my chickens and outside in the barn area. Truth is I ve always preferred feathered and 4 legged critters to the 2 leggedIts kinda cool to think about the fact that some little feathery fluff balls can make a person stop and think and remember.. There is a zen that comes from them.. Its cool. Now it seems to be spreading from me to hubby and to others in our little family![]()
Its a good thing....
