Had a really good road trip to Yacoult WA today with SadieSue. Went to see Karen Larsen of Catdance silkies. Got a lot of info about raising and breeding silkies.
Long Drive, 3.5 hours, but so worth it!
CR, if we had had time I would have tried to come see you too!
Thank you Dana for coming! It was fun!

Today was a very educational day for me too. I learned not only do I not really like painting. I am rather dangerous at it. See I have been doing some remodeling in our bath room. Well today was painting day. I carefully masked off the new tub surround, new window, new vanity, new floor and toilet. I had painted all the blue walls and was doing the white trim. Well I was up near the ceiling when the brush slipped out of my hand in my attempt to keep it from falling and making a mess ( I shoulda let it fall) the brush bounced off the wall 4 times before hitting the floor spinning like the blades of a helicopter knocking the drop cloth away and spreading white paint all over the floor.

I have three roosters out of the five chicks I started with, that leaves me with two egg layers (i would like five egg layers). I'm still a rookie. Can someone tell me if I can raise them (the roosters) as meat birds and at what age do you process them. And I've seen where people get together for processing, is anyone near Puyallup that does this?? Or my alternative is to trade for chicks or give them away and get a few more chicks. Any thoughts or opinions on any of this??

Thanks, below are the three roosters I'm referring to.

Lisa :)

You can eat any bird, just the amount of meat you get from some isn't much. I ate a very bad silkie cockerel and he made very good soup, but there wasn't enough on him for anything else. I can't remember what age is best to process the cockerels by, sorry.

I also can't help with the processing. I have to meditate to take care of the few we do, though bad birds make it easy.
