Quote: On that hike back in the summer of 1970, we didn't even have enough sleeping bags for the group. I had to share a light weight bag with my 7 year old sister. It was very uncomfortable, because with the two of us in the small bag there wasn't a way for the bag to close around our necks. We also didn't have a tent with the group. They did bring along a large tarp. We were at least blessed with good weather for the trip. We only had a little rain one afternoon. It didn't last much longer than the time it took us to have lunch. The meadow that we were in that afternoon is still one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen.

We hiked from just south of Hurricane Ridge to the Staircase entrance of the park. I know that we were very fortunate to have survived the trip without any major troubles. The last hike we took with my dad in 1975, was not as successful. It took nearly 10 years for the complete effects of the hypothermia to totally go away. I am still sensitive to cold after all these years. Cool temperatures and being wet is a potentially deadly combination, and it doesn't have to be very cold.

I do know that I would have much rather camped with your family than mine. lol I am fairly sure that we never had a air mattress or any kind of pad to sleep on during any of our hikes. We did have tents the last trip, but if your brain gets too cold the mind stops making good decisions. I haven't done any back country hiking since 1975. I was planning on a trip in 1999, but the rest of the group canceled on me. I do miss hiking in the Columbia Gorge area. When we lived down that way, the kids and I hiked a number of day trips.

Now since about 2004, I haven't been able to walk around a mall much less hike. But doesn't mean I couldn't go camping with the right gear. I'm thinking a motor home or a travel trailer would make a camping trip just fine these days. lol

Here is a pic I took of a page from Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, on how to tell if a hen is a good layer. I can take more closeups of the diagrams, if anyone wants me to.

Hope this helps!

This is my basket so far today. I'm having a good day!

I would just keel over dead from excitement if Laya lays today as well and we get our first day of 8 eggs! And now I'm even more egg-cited to go get my 2 new layers!!!

Quote: I have been battling what I thought was canker sores for a while now. I read or heard something that reminded me about Thrush. It took awhile but I finally had enough with all the mouth pain that I got the courage up to ask my primary doctor it. Because it didn't look like a case of classic thrush, he dismissed it. So I stopped by my dentist office, and ask him about thrush. He wasn't completely sure about it being thrush, but was much more willing to treat it with a anti fungal medication. It worked!!! I am tickle with how much better my mouth is. A drug like nystatin would also help with athlete's foot. It's highly unlikely to cause any problems with reactions too. But I do know that it can be difficult to get a doctor to prescribe a drug, unless it was their idea first. Apparently there are different kinds of thrush, and the odd types get missed most of the time.

I love our little tent trailer! It is very easy for me to hook up and set up by myself. It also makes camping with a toddler much easier IMO. I am so excited, we are going camping to north eastern Washington Sept 22nd to pick up a breeding pair of cochins from Rare Feather Farms, and then going camping with my brother and his family in concrete the weekend before Halloween. Both campgrounds will be new to us. I can't wait!

And here is my pretty little Veronica - I am just in love with this affectionate tiny girl. She often sits on my shoulder when I'm playing on the computer.
SHE IS A DOLL!!!

I worked in Oral Surgery for years, and was doing so when I was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease.
Routinely, I'd wake in the morning with up to 10 "cold sores" on my lips, upper & lower and all on the "vermillion border" where lip musosa meets the facial skin.
All the surgeons I worked with were baffled and had no idea what it was.
Thrush would be more of a yeast-type infection inside the mouth, they know what that is.
But Oral Surgeons and Dentists are not trained to recognize symptoms of Allergies & Celiac Disease.
Maybe you should see an Allergist ?
(maybe it was caused by an imbalance due to allergy ? or it maybe caused by steroids or other immunal suppresants or other drugs ?)
