Magnesium lotion! I love that stuff. You can buy it on amazon or direct from the website, Ive found best prices through amazon.
The "oil" stings a bit so I would suggest trying the lotion or gel.

I recommended this to someone with "restless legs" and they are hooked now too. A nice rub down before bed really helps sleep too!

[[[[.........Growing pains mostly happens when a child suddenly grows quickly......]]]]]

Severe and frequent growing pains can be a symptom of Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance). If complaints also include frequent intestinal upset, stomach cramps, and canker sores in the mouth, at least look into the possibility.

Try Potassium also, most likely found in real orange juice and /or bananas.
Potassium , or lack of potassium can cause nasty painful leg cramps.

Thanks guys! I'll check into all of these.

Chickielady - I do know that when I eat bananas and drink POM Pomegranate juice, it helps my legs significantly. The RLS doesn't completely subside, but it does help. POM keeps my blood pressure down to a "good enough" level, so I now try to drink that every day. I'm allergic to the heart meds my doctor has tried me on (throat swells). A friend told me about POM, and after I started drinking it, when back in for a check-up, my blood pressure was perfect. Now I just have to remember to drink it. It is expensive. My doctor is a medical doctor, and he said he's not supposed to support natural ways of dealing with heart issues, but he told me that as long as POM continues to work, he has no problem with my using it instead of medication.

My mom is severely allergic to gluten. She doesn't have Celiac's Disease, but she does have a true gluten allergy. I know I don't have Celiac - I have had 2 colonoscopies and have been tested twice for it. I'm not allergic to gluten, either - I was tested by an allergist for that, as well.

My daughter does fight canker sores, along with the painful legs and headaches. She also gets athlete's feet very easy. We have to spray her feet constantly - but no one else in the family ever gets athlete's feet. When she was a baby/toddler she was a walking eczema rash. It was bad! Because of my mom's allergy to gluten, I may have to try the gluten-free thing with the whole family and see if it helps her. Just what I need though... trying to find a diet that is nut-free, egg-free, cinnamon-free, garlic-free, pork-free... and also gluten-free. Some days I just feel like giving up!

My parents were for the most part distracted parents. They were heavily involved with the church, and preaching, so us kids seemed to be at times an afterthought. My dad was out of work that summer, so there wasn't anything extra. While I know that my parents loved us kids, I also know that they weren't really prepared to handle 5 children. My dad was an only child, and my mom was a spoiled rotten princess of older parents. My parents at one point wanted to become missionaries, but were held back because of my birth. So there was a lot going on with some of our relationships, when I was a kid.

While I agree with teaching children to do for themselves, I still feel strongly that a real parent has to make sure that the child has what they need. That means double check things. I don't think that I ever left my kids without a necessary item, even at times replacing a forgotten item. I sure wouldn't have let them go cold. I do miss camping these days. I have always enjoyed the camping trips with my DH. On the other hand we have never gone back country camping as a couple, and now it's out of the question. Still I love unimproved camping sites. I am quite happy without power. We haven't been camping now in years. With DH traveling so much, all he wants to do is stay home.

I may need to take my Silkie cockerels there as I've been unable to sell them on Craigslist and their crowing is making me nervous. Can you tell me the location of the auction? I may take my boys there on Saturday.
Here is the link to the Enumclaw Sales Pavillion. http://www.enumclawlivestockauction.4t.com/

Thanks JB!

Let me know if you come out here. I would love to meet up with you at the auction. I am thinking that I will need to run a few of these critters back to the auction this Saturday one way or another.

I am down to just a pair of Seramas now. I need to find another pullet or two so that my boy "Marco" doesn't worry poor little Veronica to distraction. He is one active little boy. (This is my first time with any "teenage" rooster that I intend to keep.) Has anyone ever seen the film "Dangerous Beauty"? My DD named them after the characters in that movie since it's one of her faves.

I certainly did enjoy seeing all the beautiful birds at the Puyallup Fair on Friday. DH and I were in awe of the nearly 100 Seramas there for Table Top judging and stayed to observe for awhile. A couple of our WA BYC'ers took some prizes for their pretty little birds!
Made me want more - but space is limited and I can only take so much crowing IN my house. Marco and Veronica live inside most of the time since he has a sharp piercing crow that can be heard all over the neighborhood. He's actually louder than the English Orp boy or the Silkie boys!

So I don't know if Veronica was threatened since she may have heard I was coveting other people's pretty pullets at the fair or what - but starting Saturday morning she started leaving me little eggs. Two days in a row now from my pretty 4 month old Serama girl.

I've heard it takes at least 3 of these to equal one "regular" sized egg. I asked DH if he'd like a 12 egg omelette sometime!

Here is Veronica's first egg compared to a Salmon Faverolles egg -

And here is my pretty little Veronica - I am just in love with this affectionate tiny girl. She often sits on my shoulder when I'm playing on the computer.

I agree 100%. If we forget something for the kids, we don't even hesitate to replace it. We want them to have good memories of their vacations. In the case of my daughter and her too small pants - she ended up with 2 pairs of jeans, 4 skirts, 4 shirts and a pair of shoes. She was grinning from ear to ear! Her daddy was shaking his head when paying the bill, but I could tell he was proud of how happy she was. The prices were pretty good, and Oregon is tax free! Since I never did much in the way of school shopping, she needed new bottoms, at the very least.

We won't let our kids camp cold, either. They also sleep on air mattresses in very well rated sleeping bags. I remember sleeping on the hard ground. We bring back-up foam mattresses just in case an air mattress gives us issue. And, there is usually a port-a-potty along with us, too. He bought that for me when I was prego. It has been an excellent purchase - especially when the kids were potty training. We love to tent camp, but we're well-prepared when we do.

She's absolutely gorgeous! Seeing them at the fair made me want the little guys, too. The Seramas and the Bantams are so cute!

My mom doesn't really enjoy being around my kids either. Sad. My MIL doted on every minute being around my kids, and she played with them, so I know it's not an "age" thing. It is so hard. We drove down there to see my mom, but she didn't really want to be around them much. So, even though we were there for Grandparent's Day, she really didn't interact with them. Oh well. I keep trying. We're taking her to a Worldmark Resort in Oregon for a week over Spring break. That should be an interesting week! LOL! I might not be laughing at the end of that week.

A swing of a degree or two is not going to make much difference. In fact, I run my 'bators at 100, and once it went to 102 for several days - the eggs hatched a day early.

In the wild the hen will leave the nest almost daily to get food/drink and go poo. The egg temp will drop several degrees while she's away.
Thanks! I checked it a little while ago and it was 99.3. It seems pretty stable, especially when the temp in the attached room doesn't dive 10-15 degrees. Grrr.

How about humidity fluctuations, are they the same? I plan on topping it off a little every couple of days.

I picked up my first eggs today. Woot!! I've got 4 lavender Orpingtons, and she threw in a black copper Marans. I can't wait to get the rest and put them all in!
