What the heck is it with my household lately? Now the cat is going to be expensive.

He's been losing weight, so the vet ran a full blood panel and urinalysis, and called me today to say his hyperthyroidism has come back. I called the Feline Hyperthyroid Clinic, and since it's been so long since he had his radioiodine therapy (like 7-8 years, I think?), he only has a "limited warranty", and the treatment is half price. So, next week we get to drop off the cat, shell out $500, and a few days later pick up a radioactive cat.

I really, really, really hope the chickens will cost less to keep than the cat and dog!!!

What a major bummer!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope kitty man feels better real soon. It's hard to see them with ailments!

The last time the cat had the treatment, he came home with a flea. It bit my husband. He did not get super powers, sadly.

Quote: I would respectfully disagree with you about having a dog. While yes it does cost to feed them and sometimes they do need to see the doctor. There are many benefits. A good dog will protect you, your family and property. Watch over livestock and herd them if told to. Some dogs are good at hunting things like mice, moles, shrews etc. Some dogs like our mutt will do some other pretty amazing things. IF I lose track of DW (she has had a stroke and some times gets disoriented) Quincy will search her out or if he is with her and I whistle he will lead her to me.

And lest we forget the worst part about having a dog UNCONDITIONAL love ! ! ! ! !

Quote: I have always had "hay fever" type allergies. My reactions were so bad that my eyes and throat would start to swell closed. I would sneeze so much that I could barely stand up.
The Dr. I was seeing sent me to be tested to see what I was allergic to. Not bad of the 35 things I was only allergic to 33 of them.

They made me my own serum. started out with an injection once a week then every 2 and ended at once a month. Now I am a big wimp when it comes to shots and needles but the allergy shots were not bad. It has been 13 years since I last had any of those shots and my allergies are very much under control. While I will occasionally have a very mild reaction it is nothing like before.

So to anyone who has"seasonal" "hay fever" type allergies.I HIGHLY recommend getting tested and trying this. While there is no guarantee it will work for everybody I feel it is worth the effort. And (to my knowledge) you are not getting any drugs with possible side effects. As far as I know it is just small amounts of what you are allergic to and the little bit of saline type solution that is used to assist in the injection.

I hope ya all has yer garden patches protected. See we hit 32* here at 4:10am. The only thing we got/had growing this year is a couple pear towmater plants. We have only had 1 ripe mater so far. Not even gonna be enough for me to can so I am really not gonna get too worked up about trying to protect them from frost.
I just may have to go buy me a box of mators so I can make up a batch of chunky sauce!!!

ETA since nobody else has posted. It is now 6:50 and 30*

WOW. so true, so true. It has been two months (yesterday) that I laid Kala to rest. Every day I look down in the field where her grave is and tell her how much I miss her and I love her. Silly old Man Huh!

One thing people tend to forget is the environmental impact of dog ownership. Dogs eat a lot of meat, which puts a lot of strain on our planet. I read somewhere once that owning even one dog is roughly the environmental equivalent of driving an SUV. That said, our dogs are family to us, too! We would NEVER buy a purebred dog, ONLY rescue dogs for us, ever.

Try Potassium also, most likely found in real orange juice and /or bananas.
Potassium , or lack of potassium can cause nasty painful leg cramps.
Lack of water can do the same thing. Tums have been helping my daughter, the calcium in them. My hubby gets some nasty charlie horses, not good getting them driving...scary. He takes tums when he gets one & that helps alot.

I shipped Jess hers :)

I will have to keep that in mind!! Thanks!

With all due respect to you and your allergic son,
Not one of my dogs is expensive.
Yes, dog food is pricey, so are those tennis balls for toys.
In all the years that I have had a dog as a pet, the expense is far less than the expense of a son from a woman that I married.

My dog gave me something that I can't reuse but can pass along. He gave me unconditional love. My "son" gave me conditions that had to be met...usually with hundred dollar bills. The human boy is in jail. The dog, well he never hurt a soul. The dog died because I spent money on the wife's son instead of vet treatment.

Considering "price", I'll take a dog any day. Maximum return on a small investment. It's unconditional and freely given to those who deserve it.

Dogs give you everything that you can reuse. But only if you consider "reusing love".

I apologize if I have offended you. If I were a dog, I would simply accept and wag my tail.
