Thank you for your service! I have a small Classic "Poulsbo Fishing Skiff" and would like to share the experience of salmon fishing with War Veterans. I can take only one person at a time. There are some salmon in now. I have all the gear, you will need a saltwater Salmon/only permit. Cost is about $9-17 for a 1 or 3 day.(if you need help with the cost of license, we can help). We will fish out of Ballard in Shilshole Bay (weather permitting) Please provide proof of your service. The 7 and 8lb. salmon were caught this morning(9-11) Guys or Gals welcome. Jim

Quote: I don't see any reason to not give the bird seed to your chickens. I would give it to them as a treat, not their only food source. But I tend to feed my chickens just about anything. As far as I can tell there isn't much a chicken won't eat. I do know that I sure wouldn't want to fall down in the run, without being able to get up. I tend to think of the chickens like two legged garbage disposals. I don't give them anything moldy, or with chocolate on it.

Hello~~ I just joined here yesterday and someone in my introduction thread pointed me this way.

I'm a bit floored by the over 8000 pages in this thread, so please excuse me if I don't read the entire thing.

Although I grew up in SE Michigan, I have lived in WA for the better part of 5 years now and I consider this to be my permanent home. I moved out this way when I was just shy of 20 to live with my (then) boyfriend. We've since gotten engaged and worked our way up to buying our first home. :> It's all in the process right now. Hence why I decided to join here, I'd sure like to have my own small flock of chickens.

I have bird seed in the mix I give my birds as scratch. My thoughts are the more seeds I can get in it, the better it is for them. They pick out the peanuts first, then the safflower seeds. Milo is a favorite as well (the big round seeds in birdseed, the small ones are proso millet). They eat everything in what I give them. The cracked corn is actually one of the last things they eat. Some of them don't care for it and others love it.

to all of the new people over the last few days. It's hard to keep up with this thread. I just try and catch up on the last few pages if it's been a while.

Quote: I wouldn't mind having a light box, but I haven't ever gotten past the cost. I do get enough relief from the vitamin D to make a difference. I also know that I am getting to the point that living somewhere where the sun was shining more would help a lot. I am still rather attached to Western Washington. Both DH and I were born here, and all the family is here. So moving doesn't feel like an option. I just know that I would feel better in a warmer sunnier climate. DH only needs a major airport for work, so his job isn't a problem.

Agreed. Costco has about a 3lb bag of flaxseed too, and I think about 2-3Tbsp of flaxseed makes an excellent substitute for and egg in most recipes!

There really is no culinary substitute for eggs. There are a few things that will work some times, but for the most part an egg is a very special ingredient.
