What kind of predator bird would be light grey with a white tail and would come down to attack my chickens at 5:45 p.m.?

My girls just missed disaster. I saw the large bird from the side, but did not see it's head.

We have owls, hawks, and my neighbor said we have 2 bald eagles that live in a tree across the street on the cliff.

chicken hawk --- aka, Coopers Hawk / Sharp Shined Hawk

Something like this, right? Make sure it's a porcelain socket base, not plastic. http://www.amazon.com/Designers-Edg...UTF8&qid=1347774413&sr=8-9&keywords=heat+lamp

We like to be extra sure on here....we know of someone who had a fire from a lamp burn down their barn :(

I will have to double check - thanks for the heads up!

This also works well for a brooder. Especially if yer a quacker head.

HAHAHA! This is great. If only I had an extra bathroom to spare (we only have one bathroom for all 6 of us! EEK!

Yes that is the kind and YES it was my friend / former feed supplier who lost her entire barn, all her breeding hogs and feed business to a fire and as near as we could tell it was from a failed heat lamp.

Goodness, my heart goes out to her, that's horrible :(

Still sketching plans for my coop... anything you wish you would have done differently with yours that you'd like to share with me?

Seems like ya'll would be a fun group to have a huge BBQ with, does that ever happen?

Yes we do! And boy oh boy when we all get together does is get crazy! But man the food is soooo good!!!

I was thinking that we could plan something here at my place maybe in October? CR and I were checking out my parking situation and I think that I could handle some of you peepers around here!

Well not really that I need to change it but if you plan to have say (just for numbers sake) 12 chickens. Build to handle a couple extra (DOZEN that is) birds!!!!
