Good morning BYCers!
Just catching up - wow! - so much has happened.
Robin - so sorry about your bird. Sounds like you really put a lot of love and effort into getting and keeping him healthy.
And, Jess, sorry for your loss too. Are you sure it was poison? How are the other girls?

To all those dealing with the fires, smoke and threats of fire - my heart is going out to you. Stay safe!
Have a good day, I'm off to work!

Anyone pump water out of a stream?
Any info you can give me on the pump you use, cost, etc be great.

In order to do my garden right next year I need to have enough water.
Water costs here are rediculous as not only we paying for water but monthly fees for maintence to the pump house, dam, etc.

This is an over flow stream from the lake which runs past my house so the water taken from the stream isn't effecting fish or water needed.
Will be attaching the hose from pump to a drip line once it reaches garden area which is about 150 ft from stream.
The other factor is the pump has to have enough lift to go about 20ft up path from creek till it's flat ground rest of the way.

My Pudge is a big girl now! She laid her first egg today, right on schedule. I think I'll give her extra treats today for being such a good girl.
Congrats on your first egg!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It just sucks because he was to be the basis of my Silkie flock.

I'm not really sure what happened. He had a mite infestation (no one else had or has any) that would not go away, or rather would get better but always return. Eprinex, Permectrin II, DE, lots of cleaning, nada. I just got some Sevin powder from KMHunter, but he was gone before I could dust him. He also had a weird hole on his body that looked like a bacterial infection or perhaps a cyst or tumor had burst. It was thoroughly disinfected and treated, and did not get better but did not really improve. He also lost a lot of weight, and stopped crowing altogether, which may sound like a blessing but probably meant he felt too weak to do so.

I considered taking his body to the WSU avian lab for a necropsy, but didn't want to leave him there. I buried him with my rose bushes, where he used to like to go sun himself and graze.

So sorry Robin.

I am going to try and get this photo onto here that was posted on FB. this is of the Table Mtn fire. It is an awesome photo, but terrifying all at the same time:

Wow - that's a fantastic photo! Scary!

You'll want to be sure you have legal rights to the water.

I tried getting molasses water into her but she fought me. She's gone now. Her breathing became quite labored and she started having fluid come out of her nose. Sounded to me like she was drowning in her own internal fluids. She had to have been poisoned, nothing else makes sense. DH and I culled her half an hour ago. It's been a rough day watching her like that and I'm really sad so I'll come back later.
I am soooo sorry you had to release her! Even when you know it's for the best it is extremely difficult and takes a while to recover from. HUGS!!!

. And I hope there are no more losses for anyone here!

Hopeing everyone that is close to or has friends or family around the fires is staying safe and that the fires stop soon. That picture of the fire a few pages back is just beautiful and yet so horrible at the same time.

We had a great weekend. We drove all the way up to Darrington from Mill Creek just to go out to the woods and shoot a few (hundred) rounds. It was so much fun DH and I LOVE target shooting but because we only have one kid that is old enough to go into the range over here we don't get to go hardly at all. Yesterday when we went we only had three of the kids with us, 8yr old DS, 10yr old DD and 10yr old (almost 11) DS. Saddly 10yr old DS has some challenges that we are all trying to get figured out and untill they are under control he can not shoot or have any toy guns. We felt bad that he did not get to but we are very strick on safty when it comes to the guns and it is just not his time yet. The other two did get to shoot several times and both are now just in love with it. Especialy 8yr old DS, not only does he like shooting but he is an amazing shot! We had paper targets set up for the adults with the big boy toys and pop cans and water bottles, some unopend cans of pop that were really super shaken up made for great kids safe explotions. I have pics and video of the kids shooting and of corse DH had to make sure he got a video of me playing with the AR. He also has a 308 that I really thought about shooting but I am all of 110 lbs and unless I lay down that thing would put me on my Butt on the first shot! LOL. I am so proud of the two kids, they did so great with all the directions and safty info!

Nope, no sea holly. The first three are poppies. The next two might be godetia. After that, I don't know. The last two might be cosmos.
I did not plant poppies or cosmos.......this is so strange, but fun too !
I have never planted cosmos here.
We'll just have to waite & see what it is when it blooms.
This tall thing is about 3-4' now, and has been growing since about March...I would assume if it was cosmos, it would have been blooming long before now.
There still is no visable buds on the leaders...so it is still growing.
Very strange.
