We've had a few chickens in the past come down with a mystery illness that is always fatal. Their neck starts to twist and curl back and they can't walk. Eating and drinking are very difficult and become impossible after two days or so. They're just so out of it and lethargic, and not just because of inadequate food. Does anyone know what this could be?

You might want to look up "stargazers" and Wry Neck. I'm not terrible familiar with either. Or they might be the same thing????? I believe wry neck is a vitamin deficiency.

Hopefully someone else that is more familiar with them will chime in.

I'm sorry for those who have lost birds recently. Sometimes you never know; they just die. I have come home from work and found my speckled sussex dead sitting upright in the middle of the yard. Didn't even fall over.
I was told by the avian vet that to be very careful syringe feeding chickens. If you do not get it into the crop you can easily aspirate them. And I've also heard that you shouldn't turn sick chickens upside down, that fluids can run back down their throats cause them to aspirate.

I drove almost 900 miles this weekend...it feels so good to be home! And I was rewarded when I got home...the new wyandotte squatted for me, first of our chicks to do that trick! Now I'm hoping for eggs soon

Enumclaw Music Shop update...

The music shop was very nice about the mistake of returning my clarinets to me without having completed all the repairs on them. I was happy that the guy I had initially given them to was there when I dropped them off again. As soon as he opened the cases, he recognized right away what had not been completed. He looked surprised and was very apologetic. They have taken them back and will finish the repair. They refunded the $10 over-charge. And, they gave us a loaner clarinet, free of charge. Thank goodness!!!! And, thank you to CR who suggested that we request a loaner.

And, yes, they do outsource the repair. But they will make good on the repair not being done the first time and will make sure it gets done this time.

Want to know what happens when companies make things right? They make happy customers who become repeat customers. We walked out of the music shop owning a refurbished electric guitar, an refurbished amplifier, a guitar stand, a guitar case and books for our youngest son, who has trouble using his fingers, to learn to play. Our little guy absolutely loves guitars. We're hoping that teaching him to press down on the strings will help him develop coordination and strength in his fingers.

Making progress. First coat of paint on the pen's frame today! (The right side was left out to be painted and have the hardware cloth and trim added.) If I can do it again tomorrow, my helper will come over Wednesday and we can put together the roof and door.



I like how the pen will fit into the garden. I plan on planting trailing flowers to grow over the stones next to it, and I have a grape vine planted behind the left corner that I am going to train up the deck's post and along the railings.

Eggs are on day 13!
