My kids just got to watch a super wiggly 6-day-old chick embryo. Pretty cool! We can see the embryo in the white egg, but we can't see much in the brown and olive eggs.

I finally got a diagnosis for why I am having much pain and stiffness in my hips. I may explain most of the pain issues besides. I seem to have a form of arthritis called Ankylosing Spondylitis. So far what I have learned is that I am not going to have any fun with it, and I will not get any better over time. Still it is a relief to know that it is real, and not just in my head. I have spent way too many years being told, and thinking that I am somehow making up the pain. At least now I can know that there is a real reason for the pain.

That's good, 'cause we had friends over tonight and we spent a long time playing with the chicks. They just go nuts for mealworms. Now if you stand by the brooder they run over and stare up at you, and if you reach down and wiggle your fingers they sometimes try to fly up to you. 2 weeks old, and they can get about a foot off the ground! The bigger one even flew horizontally over a foot and made a perfect landing on a broom handle. I'm going to have to order several thousand mealworms to jump start my colony to keep up with them. And boost production on my feeder roaches!Sounds like a young pullet going broody to me.
I dont think you can OD them on bugs![]()

Since mealworms have a high fat content, you might want to limit them just a bit.
