I'm testing that passive heat technique right now. I have 2 bricks warming in plastic bags in the greenhouse. I'm curious to see if they'll be warm in the morning.

I think that what you probably have is the normal Aluminum ice cream scoop. And because AU is such a good heat sink what happens it that theheat from ones hand is absorbed into the scoop which causes itto cut through easy.
I will tell ya that I would sure not want to take a chance with a chemical filled serving devce!
No, I have one like she is talking about. It has antifreeze inside--

I've had one like this:

I also have one like this, that works almost as well, but doesn't have anti freeze in it:

Awww!! That sucks! It's tough when kids are sick! My daughter is 25 and she is sick now more than she ever was as a kid! She doesn't live here, she's in WY, but there are times when she calls me and says " I want my mommy"! And that's when I wish I was back there to help her! Hang in there kid!!

My heated water bowl turns on and off according to the ambient automatically. It goes on at 35 and off at 45.

I was wondering if the one I ordered might do that... but it doesn't say it did on the description. If it does, I'm sure I'll find use for the Thermo Cube. I didn't want that one creeping up in price, too. Amazon had it $7 cheaper than Home Depot - so Amazon has room to raise the price.

The price of that heated bowl is creeping back up on Amazon today.

Ron would itbe possible to put twine criss cross over the run??? I can get lots of hay twine and we could have a knot tying class to put it together. I could come help ya the weekend after Salem show. Just let me know!!
Perhaps you can cut down on the amount of twine by adding flat ribbons to the twine or would that also stress the chickens?

I love heat tape !
DH connected it to a wafer thermostat, and installed in the side of our hot frames.
In EARLY spring, I can set out pots of seeds to grow, snug & warm in the hot frame, even in snowy freezing weather.
WORKS GREAT !!!

I'd really like to know how this is built. I have some OSB that DH would be happy if I used it up. He was complainin' about the free wood I brought home and asked me what I was going to do with the sheets of OSB. I wasn't sure what I was going to use the OSB for... but, now I have a really good idea.
