Speaking of Cutco, wondering how you like those knives Dave. Do you use them?

You bet we use them, every time we go camping. They are the only knifes we have in the trailer.

I just read your post again and it says you had an egg turner? Then did you take them out of the turner and lay them on the bottom of the bator?
I have read somewhere that it is better to either just turn off the egg turner and hatch them in that or put them in egg cartons. I am not sure about hatching them in the egg turner, but the thought was that they will have better luck pipping in the right place if the postion of the egg is kept relatively the same. I have only hatched eggs myself once, but I had a good teacher/support person. Thanks Tamara!

Yep that's who helped me also! I don't use the turner to hatch myself, I take it out and lay the eggs on the wire with paper towel down on part of it. Also, monitoring humidity is important as Kim says about shrink wrapping. I would say for me that's the toughest part, cause I haven't been able to find a reliable hygrometer. Good stuff KIm!!

Wow, I'm so impressed with our library system now that we're home schooling. I "order" (place holds) books 2 weeks before I want them and almost all of them come in in time to read them during our unit of study. I like to stay ahead so I just went through the whole curriculum and wrote reminders on specific dates on when to order the books for the next couple lessons. It's so awesome! Plus I'm doing all my printing there since you get 75 free prints/week! I just love we can have to many related books at home...the "Living Book Basket" is simply brilliant; Charlotte Mason was a genius!

One of my BF's roommates just texted and said she's seen TWO squirrels with my little Leghorn eggs in their mouths. That would explain the eight-day lapse in between the first two and the third...

No rooster will defend babies, he will only defend the breeders, and then only some roosters are dumb enough to sacrifice for breeders either.....depends on age & breed.

I was thinking that they were all pullets last time I saw them. But that was awhile ago as I am sure Ron would be quick to point out.

You need a Jersey Giant Ron!
